I'm very much looking forward to interviewing Peter Burridge tomorrow, for our weekly Action Replay column in the South London Press. Just wondered if anyone has any favourite or personal memories of PB from his three-and-a-bit seasons at Selhurst Park (1962-63 to 1965-66). Also, were any of you among the 37,774 Good Friday crowd - a record for Div 4 - at home v Millwall on 31/3/1960 and, if so, what do you remember of it? Thank you. I remember him well - what was fantastic about Peter was how well he played with Cliff Holton, who had played at a much higher level. In fact I think Peter out scored Cliff, which for an inside forward was exceptional.

Ron Heckman also ex Millwall scored one. This was my article on Burridge

Peter scored the first goal of the game, with a beautifully placed low shot into the corner of the net - which was followed by 5 goals by Coventry, under the relatively new management of Jimmy Hill. That put me off attending away matches for some time. But I loved watching him.

It was great talking to Peter and he had only good things to say about Cliff - they went on family holidays together. Part 1 of the interview will be in next Tuesday's (16th) South London Press. It covers mainly his time at Millwall, although mentions the build-up to his transfer to Palace at the end. The following week's issue (Aug 23) will cover all of his time at Selhurst Park, plus his spell with Charlton. He has some great stories about manager Dick Graham, in particular, including the 'strokes' he pulled to try and unsettle the opposition. Apparently, it was a very hot day and Coventry deliberately left the heating on in the away dressing room! This is a pic of PB that I took on Tuesday. Peter Burridge was my first real hero at Palace, him & Cliff Holton ripped teams apart in 63/4 and got us promoted. I was 8 then and thought innocently that watching football was always going to be that good. Not the case but Pete will always be No 1 in my mind, and I've had the great pleasure of meeting him a few times in the last decade and he is a truly lovely bloke. Here he is scoring at Brighton in January 1963 when we won 2-1 - our last league win there till McAnuff's late winner in 2005.

My first away game was at Southampton, Div II, 7th Nov 1964, and we won 1-0 with Pete soring the winner with (if I recall correctly) a diving header. Another reason why he's my No 1 Palace hero.

I met Peter a couple of times in the Clifton pub near the ground. He used to pop in to see Dave Harper who ran the Clifton for a number of years. They played together at Millwall I believe. Peter is one of a fairly short list of players who played for Charlton, Millwall and Crystal Palace.

Part 2 of our exclusive new interview with Peter Burridge dominates today's (Tues, Aug 23) Action Replay nostalgia spread in the South London Press. This time Peter looks back on his time with Palace, describing what it was like playing for managers Arthur Rowe and Dick Graham, plus team-mate and strike partner Cliff Holton. He recalls what he describes as his best-ever goal - scored for the Glaziers v Nottingham Forest. There's a lovely pic in the paper of PB and Cliff celebrating. Mud, the FA Cup and a 41,000+ crowd. Happy days! Edited by Action Replay (23 Aug 2016 3.25pm) Attachment: PB2 - Palace.jpg (250.29Kb)
