Finally, after 27 years, those responsible for the unnecessary deaths of 96 people are being called to book. By a 7-2 vote, the jury concluded that these deaths were the result of criminal negligence (unlawful killing) due to the failure of police command to adequately plan and as well as opening the exit gate which is blamed as the proximate cause of the crush. Sheffield Wednesday is being held responsible for their share in failing to insure safety. I wish the FA's decision to choose Hillsborough for that match even though they knew, or should have known, that there were crushes at several semi finals held there going back to 1981. the supporters were held blameless (Question 7). Can we now acknowledge that this was not due to drunkeness or hooliganism. This was down to incompetence rising to a criminal level by people responsible for one thing, safety. That an incompetent police commander failed to do his duty. That an English Football Club, whose chairman was quoted as saying any threat of a life threatening crush was "nonsense" put his wallet ahead of ticket buying customers. That things we take for granted at Selhurst Park, competent policing, dedicated turnstiles for terrace sections, as they were when the Holmesdale was a three section terrace, didn't exist at Hillsborough with fatal consequences.

A fantastic result. Shame that there are people out there who contributed directly to such a delay. LFC96 RIP.

It amazes me that they can blame Sheffield Wednesday for some of the cause and yet the FA, who chose the venue, are completely exhonerated of any blame. No one here in the Northwest was in any doubt that a verdict of unlawful killing would be returned we're just surprised it has taken so long.

Can't see how Sheffield Wednesday have to shoulder some blame but the FA don't seeing as it was them that chose the venue. Also I'll put my tin hat on and take cover but I can't believe that no blame whatsoever has been attributed to any fans that turned up without tickets. I don't dispute any of the findings with regards to the policing of the event and the subsequent lies, cover ups and statement altering. Disgusting behaviour that needs to be investigated further but I'm sorry I will always stand by that Liverpool fans without tickets trying to get in must also take so e responsibility.

Disgusting behaviour that needs to be investigated further but I'm sorry I will always stand by that Liverpool fans without tickets trying to get in must also take so e responsibility. All the top teams in the '80s used to try and get in without tickets for the semi or cup finals. Liverpool, Everton, Man U, Spurs, they all tried it if they couldn't get a ticket or knew they'd get in without paying or slipping the turnstyle operator a small tip. You just can't prove it. Only the year after there were Liverpool fans being led round the pitch during the match. They were playing football in the park to the left of The Holte End. Last season a lot turned up without tickets and tried to get over the walls behind the WH end. I think the treatment of football fans as cattle and also general football fan behaviour in large numbers in those days contributed to this. Also, previous events. Heysel, Ibrox, other near castrophes no doubt. Birmingham at Selhurst was only weeks after Hillsborough. That was a huge number of fans where more serious injuries could have happened.

Well we don't no for certain either way but anyone who went to football in the 80s will know that Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and some others were notorious for turning up to games without tickets. An inquest works on the balance of probability. I would say it was most probable that their were fans without tickets... The jury didn't though and its their opinion that counts. I'm not trying to be sensational about anything. It's just my opinion. I doubt I'm alone in it. But others will disagree. That's the beauty of free speech.
