When people talk about wingers and outclassing opponents and really hurting them Peter Taylor in 76 had it all
This was v Leeds
We were in the THIRD DIVISION ( todays 2nd )
They were unbeaten in the 1st Division ( todays premier )
I am thankful to say I was there
And Peter Taylor really was too good for anyone that year including Chelsea and Sunderland away in the next two rounds
We subsequently sold him to Spurs
But he did play for ENGLAND whilst still with us in the 3rd
Amazing days

Then we had the PT management years How to tarnish a great playing years!

Dougie too, great player dog$hit defensive guff football, thought he was an Italian defensive Don, buggered off to Bolton- that ended well.

Oddly Dean Austin, $hit player but gained a lot of respect towards the end of his Palace career with some committed performances, allways felt he would make a good manager, although haven't heard of him in any management positions, must have hung his playing boots up a few years ago.

Anyone know what Deano's upto now ?

Willo?

Maybe this should have been posted in the nostalgia section but hey ho . Happy days indeed . Remember the game well and that era when Taylor was terrorising full backs . Also remember the journey back to Leeds Station on the bus , not a window left on the one I was on,

I think they had the hump

Would this have been in the Don Revie era as I was watching The Damned United this weekend and thought about Taylor.

Although I wasn't even born I know the Taylor story. Such was his quality it was an extremely brilliant story. It also has that 'typical palace' slant after we beat Leeds and Chelsea only to go out of the cup (was it Southampton) in a poor display.

All the displays were incredible at teams who were just not getting beat at home
Chelsea
Leeds
And then Sunderland who at the time were amazing under Bob Stokoe
Yes , the Southampton game was a let down
But at least they went on to beat Man U

But they did target Taylor from the start and kicked him out the game.

That is so true..Taylor, more than any Palace player Ive see since the early 60's, influenced games single handedly..I love Wilf and Yannick but Taylors crossing and passing was far superior.Shame his management skills were not of the same level as his playing skills!
