Well respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. Usually reliable on transfers. Think the article roughly translates to us failing with bids for Zaza and Babacar and going in for this lad next.

The article was infact written by David Amoyal, here is the translation. 09-01-2016 00:16 This Sunday at the San Siro, among thousands of Nerazzuri fans, representatives of Crystal Palace will be in attendance to watch as Sassuolo play Inter. Their focus: French striker Grégoire Defrel, of Sassuolo, who was targeted previously by Juventus and Fiorentina. Those earlier deals did not pan out, but Crystal Palace are signalling their strong intentions by laying out an offer of €15 million for the player. After losing out on Babacar and Zaza, Defrel is the latest of the Serie A transfer targets that Crystal Palace will hope to bring to Selhurst Park".

The source must surely be the player's agent!

No the article was written by Gianluca Di Mazio who as I said is a pretty reliable source for info on Italian transfers. Much more credible a source than half the rumours posted on here. Well-known journalists in specific leagues around Europe are much better sources of info than these transfer blogs which post every obscure rumour printed by a tabloid or random website

I think the reality is that we (all clubs) have lists of players for each position and they negotiate with all of them knowing that many deals are likely to break down. Then, they sign the one closest to the top of their list among the deals that can go through. I believe this happened with Sunderland last week, who dropped their interest in a player they had reached agreement with because they signed someone else who was clearly rated higher on their list. So the reality is that we may well be "in for" this guy and Zaza and Babacar and Austin and others at the moment and we may well be talking to all of them at the same time. But it doesn't mean any given one of them will come in. All these rumours tell us is who is in play, not who will sign.

Be nice, calvin Andrew is a legend
Why would anyone chose to be a Seagull? The Eagle is a far superior creature. The Seagull lives under it's damp pier meekly looking out, blinded by the sheer quality of the Eagle's palace. |
