Fringe player - signed after promotion in 1969, stayed for 4 to 5 years. A forward who worked quite hard but very rarely troubled the scorer!

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..

Neat player, gave 100% got the odd goal, we seemed to have had a few players of that ilk over the years.

Lightweight, I'm afraid, Kenners.

Tried hard but not up to standard and those were the days of Per Bartram, Jimmy Scott and Willie Wallace among others so he had lots of competition at that level. Failed to score in 23 starts + 6 as sub.

He did well playing up front with Ross Jenkins in the reserves in one season, I think he got about 20 goals - that was probably 70/1 or 71/2 or thereabouts.

This is the 71/2 squad, he's far left in the middle row.

I thought I'd read somewhere that he had been successful in business, engineering possibly.

Not much competition from Bartram - he only played 12 games.

I saw him play. He didn't play that many games, always did his best but sadly not quite good enough.

If I remember correctly he was a school teacher and remained an amateur. Think he moved on to play for Exeter.

Alan Pinkney was definitely a first division player who regularly turned out for Palace during their first sojourn in that division. A rarity as an amateur, who preferred to remain as that, travelling up from Exeter (I think) to play. Like so many of Bert Head's selections, this player was better than many would have presumed. Remember Gerry Queen, a quite old Scottish forward with no real record, but did well down here. Tony Taylor, another Scot, from Morton, bought as a winger and only dislodge as a severe left back by an emerging Doris. Colin Taylor a winger from Walsall who played a stormer against Palace in the cup. He went on to play a couple of good seasons. John McCormick....I could go, as , like Pinkney, they all turned out better than most would have dared. Remember he was part of a team that stayed in the top division for longer than any other Palace team since.
