Just watching an old Simpsons episode - prohibition is coming to Springfield, and it got me thinking how would the UK cope if there was a TOTAL absence of alcohol where NO ONE from the bottom to the elite of society could get so much as a sniff(not even on the black market). No BEER, WINE, SPIRITS, CIDER - NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL! a.) Would it affect you? JUST IMAGINE THIS LAND WITH NADA, ZERO, NO ALCOHOL WHATSOEVER! Sobering thought

Thankfully the elites enjoy their tipples as much as the rest of us do so it'll never happen.
And I see signs of half remembered days, I hear bells that chime in strange familiar ways |

Give it a few more years & it will all be Haram anyway... It would affect me & I would (can/have) brew my own. I actually think people would go mad without alcohol. Edited by Ouzo Dan (28 Apr 2015 7.03pm)

Proper home brew would be nigh on impossible in the city with the price of fruit and veg, leaving many resulting to industrial alcohol. The rest of the population would be on drugs with people seeking an alternative form of intoxication and a snowball effect through an 'if you can't beat them join them' approach to dealing with coked up w4ankers. Sobering thought I'd suggest that it would increase the harm caused in society by alcohol, have little impact on demand and supply, create a source of huge income for organized crime, create a massive black market run by gangs, reduce the reliability of quality and ultimately create wide scale corruption in society through organized crime. This is exactly what happened with the UK's drug laws, which is what happened when the US implemented prohibition in the 20s. The law is incapable of implementing morality on people.

The youth are a group of goody-goody nerds. All of you! The secret of happiness is get utterly wrecked, start a fight in a kebab shop and wake up in a police cell with no shoes or clue how you got there.
