No I'm not advertising a job to be the next top gear presenter. I was just wondering if anyone could advise me? I have a 3 door Corsa and a young baby. Its very awkward getting my daughters baby seat in and out of the tight little space so I am looking for a bigger family size 5 door car no older then 2005, good mileage, less then £2000 and to be economical in fuel usage, reliable etc. I have been looking at Citroen Picasso's and Renault Scenics both in diesel so far. Can anyone advise or recommend the type of motor I'm looking for?

Five door hatches are good.
Buy at auction.
Look for low mileage (under 30k)
Go to auction and see listing of cars. Pick at least 5 you would bid on. Write the details of each, go online to carsales.com and check prices. When you've picked your cars, settle in your mind a bid amount (60% of carsales.com prices). Get a mechanic to inspect all cars - arrange with auction house for this. Then go bid. (If a car is 'passed-in' ie: no-one bids higher than its reserve, go to aauctioneer afterwards, say "Oi! Ow much is on the Purrgoh then mate??" He says: "Two and a alf, mate". You say, "Uhh... will eeh take two??" The auctioneer will phone the owner in front of you, talk a bit, the owner will discover the car didn't sell, then the auctioneer will say "Yeh mate, Two fuuhsand" "Deal!" you say, pay the man, and walk/drive away happy.

You've got a 3 door corsa? I'm assuming that you are a 17 year old girl, therefore probably a bit young to have a kid.
Hope this helps.

When we upgraded when we had kids everyone said to us you can't go wrong with Ford or Far Eastern makes (reliable and relatively cheap repairs ) we got a Mazda 3 which has been ok. Had a Renault before and guy at garage advised not to go for a French make again

Have also been told French cars are w***. Also diesel Vauxhall are to kept away from as theres something with the turbo that goes around 60k which makes them dump all your oil and seizes the engine.

Have always had ford cars and vans and they all have been pretty good with nothing major going wrong.

Our Picasso was the ugliest car I ever owned, but...

..seats for 3 full size kids seats in the back
...cavernous boot
...2 litre diesel engine was v efficient on fuel.

Was a good family car in the shape of a cheese wedge conker. You can probably pick one up quite cheap. All the best fot your new delivery

VW Passat or Bora. Toyota avensis. Skoda Octavia, Honda Accord. might have to go a bit higher mileage than you want with 2 grand.
There is a reason why you will see taxi drivers in these cars. I have owned secondhand french cars and I always ended up regretting it. I currently own a passat estate brought it with high mileage but have never had a problem. Petrol might be cheaper for you if you are not doing high mileage.
I not an expert on cars but just telling you my opinion based on my experience.

Good luck

get yourself on the autotrader website or app and then just type in your preferences on the filters. this will give you a rough idea of what you want to be looking at.took me less than a minute to find a nice 5 door fiat 34k on clock 5 dr diesel in sw16 for £1999 which fits most of your criteria.

Avoid French cars like the plague, they are designed to conk out around 70k miles, then the parts are quite expensive to replace

Citron make brilliant, diesels - the milage is legendary - My old Citron ZX even after being a rolling write off was getting 60 mpg in traffic, without any servicing or work on it.
