We have been linked with signing striker Charlie Austin if QPR go down this summer. 15 goals in his last 25 appearances, yes please! Apparently its out of us and Southampton. I feel with the quality we have in the likes of Dann, Ward, Zaha, Bolasie, Jedinak, McCarther, Puncheon, Gayle etc etc we would be excellent with a natural goal scorer like Austin. Yes, but let's beat QPR and stay up first! I'd be a lot happier with an 11 point difference and three games to go.

Hmm, didn't he start at Poole? Wonder if Southampton will sway him to be closer to family in Bournemouth. Would love Austin to chose us, of course

I suspect we can not compete with Saints, what with locality, Europe, fantastic infrastructure and vastly superior training facilities, probable higher placing and avoidance of another stressful relegation dogfight, greater chance of England call up, more wages and better terms generally... need I go on? Of course, Palace are marginally more likely to give him 38 league games! If Saints interest is serious, time to close this thread. PS QPR have deep pockets. If there is one team that throws money at players and keeps them even when in the Champ, it is they. I would say we stand 3rd behind Saints and +Charlie staying put.

Do most on here agree that Austin is better than Ings? Is there a reason why the Austin thread is so popular these days compared to that of Ings?

If QPR do down and Austin becomes available, then I'm sure they'll be more than us and Southampton interested. I'd have thought any team outside the top 6 would be interested based on this season, and perhaps even 1 or 2 in the top 6.

If a player is one of the leading scorers in the EPL he will either go top 6, stay put or leave for a top Continental club. At present, the only way a club or our size and with our sensible wage structure can sign such a player is if they already play for us. As such, I would be very surprised if EITHER Austin or Ings are playing in Palace colours next season. Btw, I have no problem with this scenario. I would rather unearth a superstar from the lower leagues or French football than some [literally] Big Time Charlie. PS completely disingenuously, if Austin signed I would be very pleased indeed.

Austin would be a magnificent signing but lets stay up first and worry about QPR going down or whether he would prefer Southampton later.

He's not going to stay put if QPR go down, he'll blow his chances of getting an England call up with competition being quite fierce already can he actually risk playing in the Champs for any amount of money? I heard a quote of £60k a week offer for Austin to stay, surely he can get that in the PL. We may be 2nd for Austin, but he may not be 1st for Saints, if we strike early with a good deal for both player and club we could nick it. Anyway, it's a good sign that we're even throwing our hat into the ring.
