Will we ever have a better season than 1993-94? I watched the season review video recently and was reminded of how good we were then. We were a strong counter attacking team, playing direct but attractive football, ball on the ground stuff. Our defence was solid and marshalled by Nigel. Our midfield robust and enterprising and our forward line clinical. The partnership or Armstrong and Williams has to go down in history as in our top three of striking combinations. I remember vividly the Nottingham Forest game in August 1993. It was a Friday night, balmy beautiful evening and we played superbly after a slow start. It felt that night that our season was going to be glorious. For me, the best performances were home to Portsmouth, including Gareth Southgate's superb goal, away at Birmingham and then away at Middlebrough where we secured the title. Happy days.

I have a couple of goal compilation videos from the 93-94 season - features goals from loads of games, set to music... ending of course with Boro and the trophy presentation at SP. 15 minutes footage in total - I will upload them if wanted. Attachment: Trophy Presentation 93-94 Season.jpg (44.04Kb)

Team should never have been relegated in 92/93 and was, as proven, too good for the Championship level (did we only lose Eddie and Geoff?). They kept their focus well though, particularly when they added the experience of Paul Stewart for the run in. The summer transfers weren't good enough though and, for me, Smith went too overtly defensive after the opening day debacle and didn't show faith that the team could have reacted positively to that and learned. Agreed though 93/94 was massively enjoyable. The number of quality goals from Armstrong, Southgate etc was particularly memorable Edited by David of Kent (31 Dec 2014 10.12am)
