I've followed Palace since we beat Man. Utd 5-0 on norwegian telly i 1972. Any other Palacefriends from abroad who remember Mulligan, Rogers and Whittle?

I'm not from abroad but I remember that match very well. I seem to recall that there were over 50,000 people there and we were packed in more tightly than sardines in a can.

I think that many of the extra supporters had turned up as there were rumours that George Best was going to play - he didn't

I'm sorry to correct you. I was a young 22 year old standing on the Holmesdale that day. Yes, we were packed in, but the official gate for that game was 39,484. That was slightly more than the attendance for the Chelsea 'Home' game of 39,325. However our highest 'Home' attendance that season was for Tottenham...44,531.
I can only state official figures published, but there were plenty of stories back then of 'Gate fiddling' by clubs and Chairmen to help line their pockets. Most games of lesser crowds me and my mates would take a guess at the attendance....But then the official announcement would always have it 2 or 3 thousand lower. We would say.."No way, there's more than that here"....Anyway, that day is still one of the highlights of my Palace history of more than 50 years.
And then there is the Burnley game in May 1979. Attendance...51,801....OFFICIAL !!!!

No matter if you are here in London or overseas, this is the man who destroyed them on that wonderful day.

Yes of course I remember those 3 and many more players dating back to 1953.

I've followed Palace since 1963, but I was 18 in 1972 and hardly missed a match... sadly I missed that one!

Back then when things got tough a shout of "Bring on Whittle" would spread around the ground. He was a bit like Johnny Williams in looks stature and skills. He stood out as he wore white boots.

Selhurst Park was buzzing when he came on!

And Len Chatterton used to drive the "Flatterer" at half time!

His son Nicky played over 150 games for Palace.
