we all know the warnings about buying fruit 'on the turn' from surrey street market. so does anybody have the inside track on how a great dutch master wasn't worth Edam ?

After all his previous glories, i guess he hadn't reckoned on just how tough the english championship is. Maybe he figured it would be like the scottish league or some other B league ? a nasty shock.

The whole team were pretty bad then. Edgar did have a very tough time playing left back. It was a great disappointment.

He didn't just play left back though. He was deployed in his favoured defensive midfield position a few times, and was still rubbish more often than not. His best game was probably at home to QPR, where he somewhat shackled the in-form Taarabt. His worst was Derby Away, John Brayford looked like Cafu that day. Wasn't really good enough for the championship. The time he'd taken out during his retirement, and the preceeding injuries, I think had degraded his talent terribly. But it was nice, if only for a few weeks, to have a player who had made it onto the worlds 100 best, had champions league and top world class pedigre. More of a marketing move by the board I suspect, it generated a lot of press for us. Did alright with Barnet. But when he'd come to us, he'd barely played in over two years, since suffering a broken leg. In his prime, one of the best ever defensive midfielders.

Great player in his day, saw him playing for Barnet at dagenham, a couple of seasons back, he was pretty good, but that was division 2. Edited by collier row eagle (19 May 2014 2.45pm)

I'm afraid he was very much past it by the time he came to us . We all age and there are no exceptions the good,the bad and the ugly all age but some of us even more so than others.
