Seeing Liverpool's win yesterday got me thinking. We now have a solid backroom staff with Palace connections as former players (Kemp, Wood and Francis) and supporters (Millen) and loyal long standing coaching staff (Issott). If we retain the likes of Speroni in a coaching capacity post playing days to add to the team, then I think we could do what Shankly did for Liverpool in the late 50's to mid 70's and build a solid football foundation which is 100% Palace. Thoughts?

Johnny, We have our best opportunity since Dowie of staying in the PREMIER league and progressing. Traditionally THE PALACE have self destructed. But if 2010 stay focussed and Pulis stays and we build slowly we have a great chance.

Thoughts? In Shankley's days it would of been easier (not easy) as I'm sure teams employed less backroom staff. A club having the same manager for a lengthy time helps as every manager often wants the staff he has had in the past. It wouldn't surprise me if other clubs did the same as there would of been far less done to employ staff. I'm not saying they were complacent but I can't see a club then looking through who was available and having meetings about who they should get.
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

I have rarely known sch optimism at the club but we need a bit of a reality check. The current squad is gelling into an impressively disciplined unit and is greater than the sum of its parts. It is though not a strong squad n premiership terms and the chances are that we will be in another relegation scrap next year - albeit with better odds than we started with this year.

Agreed in part Catfish, but my biggest concern is we wont be massive underdogs next season. Our performances have been real gritty backs to the wall encounters, which i have enjoyed watching. I hope i'm wrong, but if we start to have any aspirations with the current squad that we deserve to be in the prem year in year out now, our togetherness and determination will fracture. Keeping that together will be Pulis's biggest achievement for next season.

Building a legacy means keeping hold of Pulis. I'm a natural pessimist after supporting Palace for 40 years but if we can keep hold of him and build on this season's astonishing turnaround in fortunes, then we may finally have a chance of making something permanent out of what we've achieved so far. We've had so many false dawns in the past I won't believe it until it happens, but I have a feeling it may finally be our time to shine.

We've never been a sleeping giant, more a slightly annoying dwarf, but I'd love to see us mature into a credible mid-table (and beyond) Prem club (all this yo-yoing makes me feel queasy) with a decent stadium. Not too much to ask after 109 years, is it?
