Sunderland currently have 3 games in hand. Looking at their fixtures it looks like they will be getting very little points in the immediate future. But has anybody else noticed that their final 2 games are all against weaker sides who will either have nothing to play for or just be weaker generally ? Possibly. I don't think the three that are in the relegation zone now will be the three that go down, but as long as we are clear that's all that matters. I think Cardiff are down, Fulham's corpse is twitching and there's always a surprise. Norwich look in trouble big time, so as long as it's now at our expense then it's going to be interesting to watch. Win against Villa, and results go our way, and we are practically safe. Until then I just want everyone around us to lose! Can't see Sunderland getting anything from tonight's game.

Sunderland are away to Spurs tonight which wthey may get a point from and then at home to Everton who are bubbling. If we get 3 points saturday then we will be 11 points clear with 6 games for them. That's 4 wins which is a big ask. Norwich appears to be in trouble but may get a new manager bounce against Fulham, tis wouldn't be to bad anyway. Cardiff are down and they know it. Fulham have a shot but it seems unlikely they will get above us WBA big win for them but they are still struggling to get things really going.

They have 2 games in hand on us and they 9 points adrift of us currently, there next 4 games are Spurs , Everton (H), Man City and Chelsea , This is not an easy run of games and will not be easy to get a point at all. So if the form book of the season is to go by then we should be at 10 points clear of them by the time there last games come around, which personally I think will be enough. We are in a great position and I don't think Sunderland are a team we need to worry about, Fulham are team getting results at the moment.

Edited by Palace_denizen (07 Apr 2014 10.14am) What!, Cardiff H, Man Utd A, West Brom H, Swansea H, mid table with nothing to play for, "what ever!" All 4 of them have something to play for, Cardiff for their pride, Man U for a place in Europe, West Brom, and Swansea, for their place in the Premier League as they both are below us and far from safe. That also applies to Villa, Villa, West Brom, and Swansea also do not have an easy run in, just to pass us Sunderland will need to win 10pts more than us(something they haven't done all season) as they have only 2 games in hand over us. We will need to fail to pickup any points in our remaining fixtures for any of the bottom 4 sides to pass our total, and Norwich, are dead in the water and have lost their last 7 away games, their last 5 games are Fulham A, Liverpool H, Man Utd A, Chelsea A, Arsenal H, so very few if any points there.

Sunderland have games in hand but I think they're at a disadvantage because of it. From memory, they've picked up 1 point from their last 6 games. They're in poor form with a hectic fixture list. If you're in form, you can force your way through congestion with some momentum, but at present it's not going for them. Fatigue will inevitably play a part, so I don't see their games in hand as anything to fear regardless of who they're against. Their cup run has proven detrimental, which is a shame because clubs shouldn't have to prioritise one competition over the other. The reality is that Man City and Sunderland hit the most crucial time of the season at a disadvantage because of success in domestic cups. This is why the FA Cup has become marginalised because it's literally playing a big part in getting clubs relegated.

If Spurs cannot beat Sunderland tonight then their season is well and truly finished. It has to be hurting them to be 8 points below the Arse and so they will want to salvage some pride in that by getting as close as possible to them at least. As for Cardiff, well they didnt play for themselves, the club or their fans on Saturday, nor I suspect for their owner. I am ambivalent towards Sunderland but not Pooyet. The sooner they are gone the better.
Taking the bungy jump since 1964. Never to see John Jackson in a shirt again Sorry to see Lee Hills go, did we ever see Alex Marrow? We did January 2013 |

Manager wisdom has for all time stated that points in the bag is better than games in hand. They may pull off a shock in one of ther games but unlikely to be more than that. It's 3 from 4 of Cardiff, Sunderland, Fulham and Norwich and I reckon Fulham might just do it.

A Norwich result will probably help more, because it'll create a better gap between the bottom three and those above. If Fulham win, it closes that gap and gives them just a little bit more hope.
