Does any one remember Malcolm Allison's first game in charge of Palace this weekend 41 years ago (31st March 1973)? Under the cameras of the Big Match we won at home against Chelsea 2-0! After that we went on to change our colours to red and blue gained lots more fans and became the biggest football club in South London. The end of that decade we were promoted back to the First division with a crowd in excess of 53,000 against Burnley but not before Terry Venables had taken us up from the old third division! On the 29th September 1979 we were at the top of the table for the one and only time in our history. I think this victory is a sign that we could be entering another golden era with the plaudits we have been getting and the style with which we have embraced life in the Premier League. By the way the above game was Steve Parish's first ever at Palace!! Not a coincidence surely!
Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)! |

Having led the table we fell away but did not go down that same year. I'm sure I am right in saying we finished 12th that year. It was the following year we went down I'm sure of it.
