what happens next?

Our team clearly needs a major investment in the offensive and creative midfield department in order to avoid another relegation dogfight next season. This will require a vastly increased transfer budget with the likes of Williams and other either stepping up or out!

I assume that for TP to have accepted the Managers job this scenario would have been discussed with the Board.

TP will have what he has said that he badly wanted and this is a pre-season when he has the time to bring in the players required and crucially work with them so that we kick off fully loaded rather than not.

The $ million dollar question is regretfully coming with a lot higher price tag and this is......Does the board have the means, confidence and long term vision to back TP so that he can build a team like Stoke who can last in the Premier?

Dick,
IFwe stay up it will be a RELEGATION FIGHT for the next year and so on.
Just as it is every year for ALL the Teams in the bottom half.
Regardless of what we spend.

Extremely valid hypotethical question.

We have become a long ball team almost entirely

In this system will we ever see Jonny play again? I for one hope that we do not become a Stoke like team with 6'2" players entirely and little room for intricate skill. All Stokes players look massive, strong and in some cases slightly overweight - see Huth, Shawcross, Nzonzi and Adam.

Would a lightweight slightly lazy Zaha have come through under Pulis as opposed to football minded Freedman?

It will be a test for Pulis to see if he can play another way, the signing of Ince could show he has some lenience to skill players.

But look of Southampton's side yesterday / this season, looked good, and based around players who are fundamentally good skill footballers: Lallana, Cork, Schneiderlin, Shaw, Clyne, even Fonte despite being big is a ball playing CB.

I feel a Southampton model is something we should strive towards not a Stoke model

Response to Bill Glazier today at 8.27pm

Don't agree Bill, look at Southampton, they did spend in their second season but also had the benefit of an excellent youth policy. Look at Stoke nobody gave them a chance of staying up in their first season yet they bucked the bookies and went onto get stringer.

I think the question here is exactly how much you will have to spend to finish in the top of the Premier 2 or bottom half of Premier 1 . It needs very deep pockets and B***s of steel!

This type of action is not exactly part of our History but hopefully we can be prudently creative in the transfer market.

If we stay up, we will play Pulis' style, i.e. the Stoke way more than the Southampton way. If we go down, we will still play Pulis' style, i.e. the Stoke way more than the Southampton way. Unless he walks, obviously. But the style of play was decided when the manager was brought in.

I can't see us spending a s*** ton of money over the summer either way.

I fear that relegation could still cast its dark shadow upon us before this season is out ...and then no one will have to worry about rebuilding the team to stay in the Premiership next year!!!! Good results in the Sunderland and Cardiff games will be our lifelines to stay in the Premiership

I was having this chat on twitter - if we stay up, the team will definitely change - i can see 60% of squad going.

Let's be realistic, Speroni, Ward, Jedi, Chamakh are the only first names down - the rest are unproven or haven't done enough to get a second chance.

But, thing is, we have players that i rate - campana, williams, bannan - it's just a question of it all gelling.

If we stay up we'll continue to boot it long, that is the Pulis way. Taking this into consideration we will need a decent left back, centre back and a quick striker.

We'll need to start scoring to stay up. We don't have to be really prolific, but we do actually need to score at Sunderland. Its an important game for us to win.

Southampton and Swansea, could have gone better, but a point from those two games isn't that bad. Sunderland, West Ham, Cardiff and Villa - those games are going to be the vital games if we want to avoid going into the last game looking for something.
