I cannot believe how irresponsible the media were in the run up to yesterday's game. The combination of social media and the mainstream could have led to unnecessary acts of aggression that would have been completely unwarranted.

The last time I saw man united at selhurst we drew 0-0. That game was rather dull but come the full time whistle we celebrated the fact we gained a valuable point against a superior side.

What didn't happen that game was a load of rubbish in the build up regarding Paul Nixon and Eric Cantona. There was the customary Cantona chant from the visitors but that was about it.

Yesterday's pre-match focus on Cantona and Nixon was quite frankly embarassing and purely designed to raise temperatures. I found the whole thing rather distasteful. Using the tragic death of Nixon to stir a volatile atmosphere was ridiculous. What was worse was the amount of fans on both sides who 'bit' what the media were feeding them.

As it was nothing really kicked off. Common sense prevailed with Cantona masks removed and likewise there were no silly songs our end about Munich. However, I hope that the next time a big game is upon us people carefully read what they are being fed. So many were played by the media in the last 48 hours. It was all rather cringeworthy!
