Does anyone remember the goal Andy Gray scored from near the corner flag. Can't remember who it was against, but Andy retrieved the ball that looked as if was going for a goal kick. I can't imagine what went through his loaf but he seemed to kind of 'centre' the ball having imparted lots of side on it. The goalie made a catch for it high over his head but the spin took it into the net. A crackng shot by Andy, but did he mean it like that?

I remember the goal that Sewell scored against Leeds when a miscued shot went high into the air and Sprake under NO pressure at all allowed it to slip out of his hands and into the 'Holmesdale' goal !

April 8th 1986 Palace 2 Portsmouth 1 Was an evening match and recall it raining heavily throughout that first half where Andy Gray scored both our goals in front of the Whitehorse where I was watching. His first goal is pictured below. As you say, the second goal was scored literally by the corner flag by the Old Stand side. Attachment: andy gray.jpg (175.90Kb)

I remember that goal well. As soon as Sewell lobbed the ball towards Sprake i remember calling him a useless **** and then old butter fingers let it in. Magic!

I was at both those matches - At the home game Craven was a makeshift forward and played a blinder - Hunter admitted afterwards that he had to stop him getting a third, so ran his studs right up his shin. The away win in the Cup was thoroughly deserved - Swindlehurst header from a free kick. Got asked the time by a Leeds fan after the game and still got away unharmed!
