After last night, we now have the most 1-0 wins out of any side in the Premier league this season(5), going ahead of Newcastle(4)and Tottenham(4). This clearly shows that our plan is working- we're picking up narrow wins even when statistically we're second best on the pitch. Edited by redpalace91 (29 Jan 2014 3.54pm)

I would be pretty sure we would have had less possession than any other side this season statistically. I cant think of a game where we would have had or have had more ?????

Palace have averaged 41 % possession at home this season. Our best was against Sunderland ( 48 %) and our worst against Everton (27%). Not great but possession doesn't always win you football matches. Excellent stat. I said to a friend when Pulis come, if we become known as 1-0 to bloody Palace again team, as long as we are picking up the 3 points and staying in the premier league im sure majority of our fans wouldn't care less. I think it's a great stat considering the pre-season question marks over our defence, they certainly have proven to be resilient and keep a few clean sheets.

Bolasie in the first half last night showed exactly what we need to do when we get the ball, just be positive! (and hope it falls to Puncheon)

Edited by redpalace91 (29 Jan 2014 4.09pm) We took 4 points from those two games. The Numbers Game, a book on statistics in football, looks at Pulis at Stoke, and Martinez at Wigan and presents a case that they invert the concept of the value of possession, arguing that both teams maximise the control of possession rather than play possession football. They're happy to let possession remain with the opposition in 'safe' areas and reduce the risk of losing possession in dangerous areas by playing out. Pulis has replicated that here. I can't help but think if he was with us from the start of the season we'd be looking almost safe, and crusing high in the league.
