So they've captured Saddam Hussein. Whoopdi-doo. It's not going to stop the killing. It's not going to magically stabilise Iraq. But the capture, and trial, will draw attention away from the killing and the turmoil the country is in. And you can bet the US will make as big a show of this trial as possible. Just to remind us that hey, they can actually catch some of the people that they're going after. Not like that other guy. The one that funds that terrorist network. What was his name again? Anyway, we can all forget him for the moment because look! We caught Saddam! Right on! And let's make sure we give him a trial straight away. With lots of press coverage of course. And accord him with all the privileges of prisoners of war outlined by the Geneva Convention. Unlike all those people in Guantanamo Bay. Yeah, the ones we're holding without trial. The ones who we're stifling press coverage of because we want the world to forget about them. They're not important, after all. We can't parade them on the TV to demonstrate how great we are. Isn't that a little hypocritical? Sure, but we don't give a toss; hypocrisy is the cornerstone of our foreign policy after all!
