Big Mal's first match. Palace 2 Chelsea 0. And Jim Cannon's league debut unless I'm mistaken.
Iain Phillip scored the first and Jim the second.
Unfortunately we were relegated shortly afterwards, and again the following season! But Big Mal still remains a Palace legend.

That was my very last "regular" game at Selhurst before I took off for the antipodes. It gave me great hope for the rest of the season - sadly not realised!
It took me 13 years to get back to London and Jim Cannon was still playing - amazing.
You couldn't have picked a more seminal game for me.

Why can't people spell 'definitely'?

Yep first league win against a London club in our first venture into Div 1.Pretty sure our only "London" wins until then were Arsenal away in the League Cup and Spurs at home in the FA Cup which brought about the demise of Jimmy Greaves and Alan Gilzean. On the way home from this Chelsea win I bought a Standard Vanguard Vignale advertised outside a house at the top of South Norwod Hill for £25.Great day.....cr*p car.
