Those few who are interested in football related local history might wish to obtain the book "Who killed the Cock Robins?" (The history of Croydon Common FC 1897-1917) by Alan Futter. It's an interesting read with lots of statistics, illustrations and Palace references. The Cock Robins (two unfortunate connotations there)were Croydon's first ever professional football club. In fact they were the only one until 1918 when Palace moved to the Borough.
