Do any of you oldies remember those quality plastic footballs (fridos)that nearly every kid had in the late 50's and 60's.

I seem to remember that they were quite cheap and were very durable.Do they still make them?

Were they the orange balls with the black lines on them?

I remember being about six or seven having one and hoofing it into the garden of the old lady who lived opposite. We used to call her catwalker and my older brothers had convinced me that she was a witch .Anyway I was too s*** scared to try and get it back and the vindictive old cow kept it for weeks right next to her back door where I daren't try and get it back from.

Shed 7 - Maroon 5 . A real end to end encounter !

Hahaha... you used to get the imprint of the pattern of the ball on your inside thigh which lasted all day.

Our school banned them and we had to play footy with a tennis ball in the playground. The tackles used to fly in on hard concrete and my staprest trousers were always getting ripped and covered in blood.

Anyone remember putting "dubbin"on the old leather balls before playing a game.

I never really knew why we did it ?

Same reason you put it on the boots. Waterproofs it and softens the leather to prevent it from cracking.

Optimistic as ever
