This was the season that Stevie Kember broke into the first team and in our first game we walloped Carlisle 4-2 at home with 2 goals each from new signings Tom White and Bobby Woodruff. The shirt this season was the reverse of the now famous Stevie Kember shirt which came in the following season - it was light blue with a thin claret stripe and I always thought it looked good with the white shorts and white socks. I remember a photo of Kember in this kit on the front page of the Charles Buchan football monthly. It always puzzles me that this shirt is never seen as a replica and you never see any photos of it now. I have surfed the net to find such a photo but with no success. Does anyone else remember this kit and has anyone got any photos of it?

I certainly do remember it and good it looked.

I also remember being at the Carlisle game that World Cup winning summer. I saw Kember make his debut at the beginning of 1966 - can't off-hand remember against which team. Anyone know?

Think Kember made his debut against Bristol City away.

I have a couple of black & white photos of us wearing this kit, plus there's a cover of a Football Monthly with us on that in colour - I have that somewhere - I'll scan them all and post them one day soon.

I have a couple of photos too - the kit was also worn with light blue socks with claret tops on occasion.

I would love to see claret and blue used as an away kit in deference to our original colours and this shirt would be a good base to work from.

Great idea - it's a good contrast to the current home kit.

Would love to see that Football Monthly cover - as I remember it is a picture of Kember in action.

Attached is the b/w photo I have of Alan Stephenson playing against Huddersfield at Selhurst.

I'll have a root around for the elusive Football Monthly, sorry I can't find it right now.

Me too! Perhaps the 1972-73 kit (Don Rogers!) as an away kit.

Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)!
