1st) Feb '81 0-3 home to Coventry. 3-0 at HT, cov could have scored 15 if they'd have tried. Not just rubbish performance, team seemed to suffer a collective nervous breakdown, could not string one pass together - only player who played well - Peter Nicholas. 2nd) April '74 0-2 home to fulham - beat them 3-1 at the cottage on easter Monday, Peter Taylor show, Bobby Moore capn of Fulham, then another performance like the entire team were on a bad acid trip - not just poor but a total collapse (Roy Barry one player who played OK). Both performances were worse than the most miserable time spent watching Palace 3rd) 0-5 v Wimbledon feb '85 - nearest this placid, thoughtful eagle came to becoming a football hooligan - their fans singing 'team of the 80s' and 'we want six' - fancied thumping one or two wimbledonians seated nearby (noone played OK for us this time).

The ones that stick out: Huddersfield 7-1 Palace, that was a long journey home! QPR 6-0 Palace, they had to win to stay up. Palace 0-4 scunthorpe under Warnock, still makes me wanna cry!
"I have come to love this club and still I am in love with this club" - Dougie Freedman, Palace legend. "FOR F*CK SAKE MURRAY!" 30/11/11 I was there! |

Would you class our heaviest defeats as our worst performances? Sometimes there is nothing you can do on the day against a rampant side. Worst performances for me have been when i've seen us play against sides on an equal footing yet show absolutely no desire to attack. I think those games are just criminal. Burnley away last season for instance: One down within 2 minutes and yet we didn't produce one shot on goal in that whole first half despite Burnley just sitting back themselves. Tell a lie, David Wright ballooned a 50 yard pass forward that got taken by the wind and had to be caught by their keeper just incase. The Liverpool 9-0 was obviously highly embarrassing because it was national news - there was no hiding place. Even the players were getting it while walking down the street with people shouting '9-0' from their cars or the top decks of buses. But would you class it as worst performance? Liverpool were a s*it hot team and were class that night and everything they touched went in. The 5-0 at home to Wimbledon for me was the most embarrassing moment to be a Palace fan. You have to remember that at that time, Wimbledon in the minds of most, were still that little amateur club down the road that had out done themselves by reaching the heady heights of Division 2. They had no business even playing CRYSTAL PALACE in a league game nevermind totally ripping us to shreds on our very own turf. My mates dad took this picture of Jim Cannon just after the Wombles raped our defence for a third time. Jim tried in vein to stop it, his momentum carried him onto the barriers in the Whitehorse End right in front of us. As he leaned motionless on the barriers he spoke these immortal words: 'F**king game and a half this is!' Attachment: h wimbledon 0-5 24.2.85.jpg (244.77Kb)

2 games from 03-04 0-5 away to Wigan, after which Steve Kember was sacked. Then 1-3 at home to Crewe which effectively stopped Kit Symons getting the job full time.
