A random topic i know but..... Looking at the Palace side of the 1987/88 season, it is quite amazing to realise that we regularly fielded four future England internationals: Andy Gray, Geoff Thomas, Ian Wright and John Salako. Has there since been a team outside the top flight, who fielded four or more future England internationals? I doubt it.

Mmm, you could be right, it's probably unique - and a seriously impressive feat - but what about Wimbledon? They had Dave Beasant, Dennis Wise, John Fashanu and John Scales. All four played for England - but not sure whether they all played for Wimbledon when they were in the old Second Division?

thats why sky have ruined everything. the equivelent of of those players are now squad players for prem teams rather than 1st team champtionship or bottom end prem 1st teamers. too much money at the top.

Sometimes when Palace were away I used to go and watch the Wombles when they were in Div 4 with the likes of Beasant and Alan Cork in the line up then. I think Winterburn was there around that time too.

In those 3rd and 4th division days i'd always end up in the away end at Plough Lane - so much more space! This was something i did quite a lot in those days. My mates dad at the time was trying to visit all 92 grounds so when Palace were away we'd often end up in the away end of some obscure ground or another. God, i really miss those days. The football experience was just so much more colourful, interesting and unpredictable than it is now.

Go back to 1963-1964 season when Leeds were in Division 2 they had Jack Charlton, Terry Cooper, Norman Hunter, Paul Madeley, Paul Reaney and Alan Peacock on their books. All went on to play for England. Perhaps not surprisingly Leeds won promotion that season.

Also Martyn would go onto be an England first choice keeper (a pretty impressive achievement) and although Southgate was later, he'd go onto decent international achievements.

Incidentally, the 9-0 happened on September 12 and, long before the attacks on the Twin Towers, I'd long referred to it, not as a 9-0, but as my own personal 9/12
