Came across this Man City documentary from 1980/1 season with some real candid footage of the Palace side that year. It centres on Malcolm Allison's final days at City, John Bond taking over and Big Mal returning to Palace and playing City in the FA Cup. All 6 parts are well worth a watch with some real rare and brutally honest behind the scenes footage. Palace are featured in the final two parts, 5 & 6. For anyone that lived through those dark days, this documentary is quite a time piece and a reminder of the beginning of a very depressing period for us that only ended when Sir Steve walked through the door 3 years later. Hi Bubbs, Really interesting. I was at Maine Road that day with the handful of Palace. Ironically I am currently reading a biography of Allison entitled, 'BIG MAL THE HIGH LIFE AND HARD TIMES OF MALCOLM ALLISON FOOTBALL LEGEND BY DAVID TOSSELL' A good read. I have a special interest in Allison and the City team of the early 70's as I lived up north for 4 years as a kid, and my dad took me to see the great Allison side of that era with Bell Summerbee Marsh Young Lee Book Doyle Jeffries (who played for Palace)
A new era of total football is on the way to Selhurst Park!! |

It's a depressing video, shows just how bad we were when big Mal returned. Things got even worse over the next couple of seasons.
