Awesome,I have the video of their best goals and never tire of watching it. After watching those clips again I honestly don't reckon that we realised,at the time,just how good a team we were. I often wonder if that European fiascio had turned out differently,would we have gone onto even greater times,but then again we could have fallen at the first hurdle...we will never know! ........................Then along came Johnny Byrne! and the rest, as they say, is history.....................

Awesome,I have the video of their best goals and never tire of watching it.
After watching those clips again I honestly don't reckon that we realised,at the time,just how good a team we were.
I often wonder if that European fiascio had turned out differently,would we have gone onto even greater times,but then again we could have fallen at the first hurdle...we will never know!

........................Then along came Johnny Byrne! and the rest, as they say, is history.....................

Thanks Kermie, that brings back great memories mate. Wrighty was the most exciting player I've ever seen at Palace and with Bright as well, simply brilliant. And don't forget Wrighty broke his leg TWICE during our cup final season, and was still the man in the final. Imagine if he'd stayed fit all season! He would definitely had gone to Italia 90.

Thanks Kermie, that brings back great memories mate. Wrighty was the most exciting player I've ever seen at Palace and with Bright as well, simply brilliant.

And don't forget Wrighty broke his leg TWICE during our cup final season, and was still the man in the final. Imagine if he'd stayed fit all season! He would definitely had gone to Italia 90.

He never had enough confidence in them to ask them to stop playing hoof ball and play it along the ground. Used to tear me hair out cos I knew what was coming. Relegation. We had a chance to become a regular top 10 in The Prem from 1991 - by god we had the players - but the will from the backroom staff and board level was just not there. Breaks my heart still. I'm not sure about the lack of confidence of Steve Coppell but I do know he was reluctant to change and feared failure.I reckon you are right that we were aware of their ability,as I always thought that we were a match for any side on our day.
I do know that the board restricted him a lot when he attempted to improve the squad.I recall shortly after he signed Martyn I was talking to the V-Chairman at the time,his name escapes me at the moment,who informed me that they only sanctioned the signing as they were sure they would get the money back,if we were relegated,by selling him on for a profit.
Hardly a ringing endorsement of their confidence in him.

Ah happy days, back in my youth. Solid team with strikers and actual wingers. For those that don't know, these were players who could run down the wing, beat the man and cross the ball to a forward, who may or may not score. The point being that the winger could beat a man and set up a goal scoring opportunity. Wright and Bright were good, but were helped by a good midfield and players who'd support, Salako and Mc Goldrick. I am so glad (all over) that i had the opportunity to see my team playing some great football. Maybe one day................. and it's goodnight from me.......

Ah happy days, back in my youth.

Yeah, that rings true. Noades didn't want to invest (part with any cash more like) even though Sky money was only 12 months away had they survived in 92/93. Shame.
