anyone remember the game 4-2 woodruff hat-trick? i was a programme seller and was counting the money up under the main stand, when there was a terrific roar, i ran up the steps and it was 1-0 to the Palace, went back down to continue counting then....yeah you guessed it! another goal 2-0, then when we were nearly finished another roar, i ran up the steps....it was 3-0 and i had missed them all!!! i watched the second half and Millwall were on top and pulled 2 goals back, they had weller and possee in their team in those days, possee went on to play for Palace some time later, it all turned out well in the end as Bobby Woodruff battled through to score our 4th and he's 3rd, a great hat-trick, i missed 3 Palace goals that night, i remember Woodruff for he's many goals and massive long throw, this game has always remained strong in my memory, electric atmosphere, and manager bert head celebrating at the end.

that was a bit before my time but I will always remember us beating them 3-0 at the Den at the start of the 77/78 season. We were tremendous that day.

I thought Bobby got two that night with Colin Taylor and McCormick the other, but could be wrong as it was a tense night game and we were pushing for the top of the table.
It was a full house and I was at the Whitehorse end at the top of the terracing, towards the end,as I had to leave on the final whistle to get to a darts match after the game.Remember that late goal going in and the place went wild, couldn't leave early though.
I missed the darts match!

I remember the away match earlier in the season at the Den(dump) won 0-2 Woodruff and Lazarus but we missed the goals.
We were down the far end as we couldn't get up to the terracing, too packed. We were under the roofed end at their lot started breaking lumps of asbestos,I guess it was,and throwing it down on us.Had to push our way to the back for safety and told a Copper who did nothing,he said let them sort it out and I'll go down there later.
Just about sums that place up!
What a season!

i was there,,,,,first game of the season,,,,,,,,,,surrounded by millwall fans even though we were in the palace end,,,,,,,,if i remember right i think they thought they had a decent team that season and were exspecting to do fairly well,,,,,,,,,,bit of a shock for them getting thumped 3-0 at home by a newly promoted team,,,,,,,especially as it was us.

My two favourite Millwall games were:

1988 1-1 at The Den. They were motoring towards automatic promotion while we were struggling to make the play offs. They led 1-0 for nearly the whole game and we just never looked like scoring. Then in injury time a corner found Jim Cannon who bundled it in with...well I believe it was the crotch area. The look on the Millwall fans faces was priceless - we went absolutely ballistic....until the realisation that we actually had to make our way to our cars.

1989 4-3 at Selhurst. 1-0 down, 3-1 up by half time, back to 3-3 in the 2nd half, then last minute: Wright to Bright who smashes it into top corner, 4-3.

Same here Bubbs.
That away game was great. Went into their boozer before this games as 'guests'. Scarey!
They were all over us but Cannon fluked an equaliser with little time left on the clock.
Happy times.

I've supported Palace for 54 years and my hate for Millwall is unbounded. I have to say that, apart from their dreadful supporters, some of it is due to the fact that they have come out on top in far more of our meetings. For that reason I've shut out some of those bad memories, especially one 5-1 defeat.

The best thing though is that we have spent much more time in the higher divisions than they have. There have been some memorable games. I was in line with Sheringham when he put them in front at The Den and we hung on until that Cannon equaliser which was very sweet. There was the more recent 4-3 game at Selhurst with the infamous Hopkins own goal and I think a 4-1 win there when George Ndah beat Casey Keller with the final goal to the absolute vocal disgust of the Den morons.

We have also nicked some of their best players over the years. The recent ones are well known but what about Vic Rouse, Peter Burridge, Ron Heckman, John Roche and Roy Summersby. We've never given them much in return though apart from Nicky Chatterton and Barry Pierce, I was there when he scored the only goal against us in 1959 having just been transferred. If Dave Sexton had played that day with the mercurial Johnny Byrne it would have been a lot different.

I cannot though erase from my memory the sight of Joey Broadfoot and Joe Haverty, a self confessed pre match drinker, ripping us apart at the Den, not to mention the imperious Dave Harper, an absolute gentleman, who later became the licensee of the Clifton Arms. And Terry Long managed them plus my old mate David Payne successfully managed their youth team. Those were the days!

We hate Millwall and we hate Millwall!!

lo Selhurst silva felix, lo Selhurst cara nutrix, viget, vigeat, vigebit! Best team:- Jackson; Gilbert, Evans, Cannon, Sansom; Hughes, Kember, McNichol; Byrne, Holton, Wright.

Does anyone remember when they tried to attack the Holmesdale during the minutes 'silence' for Brian Moore?

Spent a good ten minutes avoiding nuts and bolts from the seats they smashed that day.

Utter scum!

I remember a home game against them in '87 i think, when loads of them infultrated our home section in the Arthur Waite. Trouble inevitably kicked off, and while the game was still on loads of Palace fans (mostly young teenagers) fled in sheer terror onto the pitch to get away from the Millwall nutters.

The funny thing was, the papers the next day reported that the game had to be suspended due to 'Palace hooligans invading the pitch.' I had to laugh, those Millwall fans must've choked on their fry up the next morning! I had visions of Northern fans reading their papers thinking: 'Bloody hell, those Palace fans must be harder than we thought...'

I was at that game, Bubbsy.
Seem to recall that it was very, very cold and that there was an even worse atmosphere around Selhurst than normal for a visit by the scum.

I was there, in with the AW singers and it all kicked off. I recall to this day there was this psycho with an umbrella who was aiming it at anyone around him.

I also recall once going to Palace v Shrewsbury in the mid 80s and some pissed up millwall fan came upto me and asked me who I supported, nothing happened as I recall but with hindsight he was one thick muthafukka.
