All the oldies on here will remember these! They were just bits of wooden slats attached to a handle with a sort of camshaft/cog on it. As you twirled the handle the slats banged against the cam/cog and made a rattling noise. When we scored all you could hear were the rattles and banging of boards in the ground. I made mine at Carshalton High for boys in the woodwork class when I was about 12, circa 1966.. a great year for footy! It was painted claret and blue and accompanied me to many a match at SP and my scarf of course. Anyone else have one? Edited by Hoof Hearted (07 Sep 2010 10.49am)

I still have one with all my Palace memorabillia. Painted claret & blue - I put fur round the handle to make it more comfortable. Always took it to the games & always wore a rosette, scarf & bobble hat.

Me and my mates all had one one and we used them banging out the Glad All Over beat on the boards, they seemed to phase out quickly though after so many years.

I'm sure they wouldn't be allowed. I got clumped a few times standing in a packed Holmesdale.

I am please to say I still have my wooden football rattle from when I was 8 now 49 and I also obtained a coca cola plastic one in the middle 90's both in good working order and still very loud. A dangerous weapon if hit round the head.
