...of the football special. Some of my best Palace moments are directly connected to travelling on a ricketty old piece of rolling stock even the Nazi's would have thought about twice using on the New Cross to Auschwitz line...cheap train travel, Gildo's sandwiches, cans as far as the eye can see...breakdowns every hundred miles or so and pulling into Kings Cross at precisely the same time as the Millwall special on an alarmingly regular basis...smashing times

I can remember going on Chelsea with my brother in the late 60's early 70's. We got on the tube at Fulham Broadway to South Wimbledon on the way home. One hooligan was swinging on the suspended handles in order to get his steel toe capped boots to smash every ceiling light in the carriage. No one batted an eyelid! Too scared or ambivalent to it.

We had the ginger copper who used to travel with us all the time. I took a fair few swipes off him, especially when he caught me trying to loosen light bulbs.
When i see him, it's gonna be painful. Skinny little cont. |

Ah football specials. Heh heh - yeah that always got me - I remember coming back from Manchester on night with hardly any windows after the train took a broadside..it was b****** freezing. I remember Ginge the copper, he played a kind of John Aalderton 'Please Sir' role, yes he had the authority but it was like herding cats trying to keep any control and he seemed to spend most of his time having a catch up with the local plod on arrival - he was a good fella as it goes
