Well because we don’t live in Egypt, obviously - British citizens can only pressure their own politicians to act, not random foreign governments. And yet British Citizens march every Saturday through London demanding that a foreign government stops its actions in Gaza...
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

No, they don’t - they are pressuring their own government to support peacekeeping efforts. There is not a single person who believes a protest in London is going to influence IDF decision making.

So what do you suggest that the UK Government does to stop the IDF's actions? What specific actions should we as a nation take?

Exactly the same diplomatic actions we’d take against any other nation who were flagrantly committing war crimes - you don’t even have to go back far to find examples. As a broader point, why do the people defending this massacre pretend it’s the first time in the history of mankind that a conflict has occurred and that no precedents exists in terms of a) what is appropriate military action and b) what response said action elicits from other nations and the international community as a whole. I suspect the answer is because deflecting to detail is an easy way to move a conversation on, which is useful when flailing in the ridiculousness of trying to defend Israel’s conduct.

The USA and UK are far more entrenched in Supporting Israel, than even I thought. Check this article today by the BBC How can Israeli 'settlers'. Those who've bulldozed Palestinian villages and killed residents and stolen their land, actually be armed with M16 assault rifles ? "Nadav Weiman came with the BBC to the village. He is a former Israeli special forces soldier who is now an activist with Breaking the Silence, a group of former combatants who campaign against Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories. Nadav believes that Jewish settlers, the most militant of whom are known by name to local Palestinians, were once again flouting the law with the police and army. "They're demolishing Palestinian villages, beating up Palestinian farmers, stealing their olives, trying to open a third front, an eastern front against the Palestinians in the West Bank. Why? Because they want the land without Palestinians." Two Israeli soldiers came to investigate what we were doing. One of them told an Israeli member of the BBC team that he was a traitor for visiting Palestinians. They filmed us but took much less interest in what had happened in Khirbet Zanuta, a few miles down the road. In practice, settlers rarely end up in court and if they do, they can usually expect light sentences. The settlers are armed and supported by powerful allies in the Israeli government, led by Itamar Ben Gvir, the minister for national security and Bezalel Smotrich, the finance minister who also has security responsibilities in the West Bank. Controversially, Mr Smotrich just found more than $100 million for the settlers. " (BBC website)
From a human aspect, I find this slaughter and tortuous death committed against this innocent population , sub-human. Sure , go after Hamas, but this isn't what Israel is doing.

I just don't believe that the UK Government doing what is considered right would make a difference to what the IDF is doing. It's their war not ours. Israel has not taken any notice of numerous UN positions on the situation; Israel is not going to take any notice of what the UK Government says.

I’d again point to a history of diplomatic action successfully scaling down conflicts - it doesn’t always work of course, but it often does. As it stands, we are complicit in this - all sides of our political establishment have green lighted Israel’s action.

I certainly think that we as a nation are far too slavish to the Americans, who themselves are tied to Israel at the hip. I don't think that's particularly sensible and harms soft power. Personally I view neither Israel or any Arab nation as our business other than for trade but we have a wider responsibility to show that we understand proportionality and can say, 'no' to supporting.....what is in effect a form of drip drip ethnic cleansing. Problem is we appear unable to keep our nose out of anything. When we suffer attacks for these choices no one will suffer accountability for putting us into these situations.....both demographically and politically. Democracy isn't really democracy when it's essentially a 'failed upwards' scheme for wealthy family networks. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Dec 2023 1.57pm)

Yep, I'll say again I'm no friend to Islam or Muslims, who are just as expansionist and chased all other religions from their lands taking their lands as well. There are no sob or hard luck stories written about it.....these lands became 99 percent Muslim in silence. However, two wrongs don't make a right. That land is as much Arab as it is Jewish, in fact numerically more so. Being a European who also values the land of their birth I'll say this. The land grab and killing of Palestinians has been going on since 47 and has largely been ignored.....In fact the gloves came increasingly off as Jewish influence and power rose in America. As I remember there hasn't been a president that wasn't in hock to the Jewish money lobbies since Carter. This has shaped their policy towards Israel ever since. They cannot be an honest broker. What happens in Israel is enabled by America and the Jewish lobbies there. The Bible says 'money is the root of all evil'.....Whether you believe in religion or not there are many truths spoken within it. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Dec 2023 6.18pm)

I don't think the Israeli response is proportionate, or even targeted. Somewhere around 20,000 Palestinian civilians killed, 6000 of whom are estimated to be children. America has just voted to block the latest proposed Aid package Mr Sanders, who is a long-time critic of Mr Netanyahu, added: "What the Netanyahu government is doing is immoral, it is in violation of international law, and the United States should not be complicit in those actions."

And when Israel takes their advice and withdraws with Hamas still in control; who WILL do another October 7th attack, what should the world think then? They deserved it for being Jewish or “oh s*** why did we intervene!”.
