Quite happy for news outlets to be outed for getting things wrong, more often than not the correction and apology is minuscule compared to the original error. What Trump and the GOP are doing is trying to bully the news into not reporting anything against Trump. I would say the likes of CNN and MSNBC have actually stepped up their anti-Trump agenda in the face of this. I think Trump and the GOP are right to call out bad journalism. Some of the stories have been shocking. The general public is also losing trust in the credibility of mainstream media – and a lot of polls indicate this. Edited by Penge Eagle (18 Jan 2018 5.28pm)

Indeed, before Trump I wasn't as aware of the extent of the lying and half truths the mainstream media are willing to reach for....not the scale anyway. Don't get me wrong, it's on both the left and right.....and true objectivity is probably a myth....however, media institutions get far too much respect from the left still.....as long as they are anti Trump....they don't really care about the lying and hyperbole.....like Fox News before them with Obama. Seriously, the lack of editors, copy staff & researchers has meant standards have dropped overall. Whereas Woodward & Bernstein of Watergate fame wouldn't publish without 2 independent sources confirming anything they were told, especially from Deep Throat (Mark Felt of the FBI), today it's get it first, get it fast, get it now. Get it right, not so much. See Fox & CNN getting the SCOTUS Obamacare decision wrong, in CNN's case for a full ten minutes.

The fact that it is negative does not necessarily mean it is biased....... I for one am rather surprised about the HIGH percentage of positive remarks Originally posted by Penge Eagle

How so? Should unbiased mean he has 50 plus and 50 minus? Or generally a positive press? What is a level playing field? I certainly have made my mind up yes, perhaps you could call that biased but I hear what I hear and see what I see and it is not the interpretation of the press that made me draw my conclusions, its he himself.

Never heard of the Daily Mail you're probably biased then.
I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like. |

I don't believe that true objectivity can exist.....but I believe that some people are more objective than others certainly. What I said was based upon what you said yourself. Most media is left centred or centralist and Trump receives far more criticism than previous presidents so you saying that you are surprised that he receives what little positive press he does leads me to conclude that you are biased yourself. All totally ad hoc of course. I could be wrong but it's my take.

Projected on the US you have a point. Even if "central" over there means something completely different from here you would expect to at least initially comments being somewhat "balanced". If you care to have look this sums it up perfectly for me: a lying prick of a new ambassador to the US here in Holland gets confronted with his lies from the past, gets asked about it and then calls it, in perfect Trump style, fake news. Gets confronted with that after shown his original comments then denies that he called it fake news. Very quickly rectifying it with: at least I think....., this is the same interview, seconds before. Nothing do do with media bias I 'd say, unless you assume it is just a little blip they have cut out of a fountain of honesty and goodness of the chap. I partly see what I want to see I realize, but please don't think the piss. Originally posted by Stirlingsays

I partly see what I want to see I realize, but please don't think the piss. You appear to be suggesting that a lying republican...well any hue of politician for that matter but a lying politician is some basis for holding overly biased views on Trump......Trump lies probably more than most politicians. I can't take seriously the view that people should be anti Trump because he or his appointments lie.....All politicians lie....They would have to view all politicians with the same scorn...accepting for understandable political bias. What I would accept is that media that isn't on the 'right' from an American perspective would be critical on Trump.....What annoys me is the utter childish nature of lots of this criticism and the vapid approaches many of them take....expecting their audience to automatically agree with their agendas.....That said this is only a criticism I hold for public broadcasting institutions like the BBC....what privately funded ones do is their business....though I criticise its poor objectivity I'm a tad more accepting of it. I just want commentary that's more grown up and adult....In a sense not Trump like. Edited by Stirlingsays (19 Jan 2018 5.35am)
