Authors, publishers, will say that the same principle should apply on the internet as in other fields, that their content should not be used without their permission, and licensing will give them some remuneration to compensate. Hopefully a balance will be struck in a few days time when it goes back to the EU parliament, after having been rejected this summer. Sir Paul McCartney is among the advocates, presumably they will want this to apply to the UK in any event. To them presumably what google facebook etc. are doing is intellectual theft.

Seems like the EU can't sign Mays chequers agreement fast enough!!! Brexit: Barnier says agreement possible by early November - [Link] They can see that Boris and co will negotiate harder and that they are very close to breaking the horses back!! Or they are playing a very clever game? The proud british in me hope so. Edited by dannyboy1978 (10 Sep 2018 5.43pm)

Obviously the realistic possibility of Johnson taking over and a 'hard Brexit' has cut through the BS. Goes to show you just how useless May's remainers and the left have been on this.

Through the 'deal' there are so many advantages for the EU which feared a disaster. It seems that the UK and EU relationship is re-drawn with the U having no say in what happens in the single market for example. How ironic that in one of Mrs Thatchers flagship achievements, the single market, the UK will be reduced to a standard membership with no say in the operation of the world's largest market.

This came up for me on NewsNow, see attached. More EU interfering and restricting internet use! Essentially it's a 'link tax' and this bureaucracy will hit small media outlets while large corporations such as Google and Facebook will be able to afford it. As is the case with lots of EU regulation. More on this Copyright Directive [Link] Edited by Penge Eagle (05 Sep 2018 10.54pm) Fantastic news. Both article 11 and article 13 passed today. Don't be posting any of your memes on here, or you'll get the Verhoftw@t SWAT team abseling through your window and carting you away. The future looks more Brazilian every day. Thank EU.
