Seems those peaceful loving looney lefties are not happy about democracy in France and have resorted to burning things and violence.

You would run into endless legal issues if you tried to treat new arrivals differently to older ones. North Sea oil rigs aren’t ships. They are oil rigs, securely fastened to the sea bed. How many can they accommodate? The biggest up to 200 but many around 50. Some of the small boats carry 50! It’s not going to happen. Reform won’t get 48%. No Party in the last 60 years has and it’s almost unknown in the UK. Anyone who did would win in a mega landslide. Parliament wouldn’t take notice. Reform would be the Parliament. It’s not going to happen. They will get less seats than the LibDems and possibly less than the Greens. Farage will be noisy but ineffective. If of course he finally succeeds in becoming an MP.

Your defeatism is why this country is having such problems. Cruise ships would be more appropriate but presumably not good enough as…well, I’m not sure why. It’s just a floating hotel and we’re filling up static hotels. I want to separate out the genuine from the chancers, the same as you would want to when renting out your property empire.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

"Brexit happened in January 2020 and the UK’s export figures saw a decline that year, with figures dropping from £706.7 billion in 2019 to £624.8 billion. But there has be a steady rise since, with exports reaching £864.5 billion in 2023." Source: theconversation.co.uk So if alienating trade partners increases exports let's alienate some more.

Policies are changed for tiny percentages, if 20% it would be heaven forbid doing what a lot of the electorate wanted.

It’s far from defeatism. It’s realism, being honest and not selling the impossible to the gullible. There are no easy, short term solutions available to intractable problems. They need determined, calm, practical and non political solutions that are determined by our representatives as a whole and then put into place over a number of years. Can you imagine what the cost would be to use cruise ships? If I was an asylum seeker I would be delighted to be accommodated on one. Wouldn’t it be better to put them to work, for instance replacing the fruit and vegetable seasonal workers that come and live in temporary accommodation in rural areas? Sorting out the “chancers” from the genuine is what takes all the time and that demands we have access to them and they have access to legal representation. 48% of the popular vote in our situation with a number of smaller parties involved would definitely give you a huge majority. General elections are not, thank goodness, referendums so any comparison with Brexit is meaningless.

That minority interests are considered and protected when to do so doesn’t impinge on others is a mark of a mature, responsible democracy. Something we should be proud of and not condemn. Populist politicians pandering to base instincts simply to garner votes from the prejudiced is what deserves the condemnation.

A nice betrayal of your own arrogance though.
