Who's choice is it to play Schlupp, Macca and Luka in a flat three along with PVA when none of them can pass a square ball 3 yards accurately, whilst Kouyate and Meyer warm the bench then?

As pointed out by someone with working eyes, fielding 4 CMs is RH's choice.

These are management decisions simple as that. The squad might be thin on quality, but a decent 11 can be cobbled together most weeks and managed with tactical substitutions appropriate to what's going on in the match.

Not the same b****** one every week on 76 minutes no matter what!

Kouyate is even worse actually and Meyer when up against little room has a 'night' before his name, he bottles too many a pass and gives responsibility away, maybe he is one for the future but he is no different from Jonny Williams or Barry Bannan, McArthur and
Milivojevic are the only ones that are consistent enough to move forward in both senses, McArthur has been very unlucky at home not to have scored at least five and they would all have involved points for us.,

This season has been the most comfortable season for us by far. The closest we've got to the relegation zone is 16th. We had the Pardew season with a great start but then had the last half of the season with utter tripe.

We've been consistent and not had any real panics, which considering we've spent over half the campaign with no real striker and having injuries to players like Tomkins and Sakho for the last part of the season shows just how well we have actually done.

This is exactly what we needed as a club. No pay offs for sacking a manager. No expensive staying up bonuses for a new manager. No panic January buys to keep us up and the added bonus of moving on fringe players. Discovered a new home grown talent.

Home results aside, I'm really not sure what there is to moan about and why Hodgson is being questioned so much. We have a lot to be grateful for, I think.

You nailed it there. This is the only reason Hodgson is criticised, however the fact that it IS at home when everyone gets to see it week in week out, amplifies the angst against him. If you swapped the performances from away to home we would probably say that was a nice relaxing mid table season and there would be less concern, but we all know that this season could have been so much more if we had turned on the style at home and played with a bit more ambition.

I have had a bit of a see-saw season with my opinion of Roy myself. I have got incredibly frustrated at the home matches, with his failure to make timely subs and offering no threat against teams that he thought we had no chance against, but by massive contrast we have seen some amazing away performances. I would like him to do one more year and hope that next season we can get performances and results at home that match the away.

I agree with your points here, apart from the word 'unlucky' to describe Macca in front of goal. Hes been awful, really poor decision making. The problem I have with our collection of midfielders is they are all too samey. None of them particularly cultured on the ball and very little in the way of creativity. I hope this is addressed in the summer.

Have we actually been 'good' at home in any of the seasons since we came up? Personally I think it is a matter of personnel. We have the perfect team for counter-attacking football, with a solid defensive unit in the centre and very quick wingers and attacking fullbacks. However, we don't have a playmaker for when teams sit deep, someone who can unlock a defence. I think many of us hoped that would be Meyer, but he is yet to convince so far. Also, we have operated without an effective striker for a large part of the season.

Towards the end of the season Hodgson definitely seemed to be setting us up for results rather than performances and the fact we are 15 points clear of relegation support his pragmatic approcach. However, as we are unlikely to have the funds to push much beyond midtable I hope we can at least explore how we can provide more entertainment on the pitch, especially at home.

Loftus Cheek and that French bloke (I preferred Puncheon personally) did have more bite and forward motion ..Cabaye would lose his head too easily though and foul too easily through frustration, but they both clearly showed what we are missing this season. players at Hodgson's disposal is the reason for our results, he is however pragmatic yes.

Hodgson plays the same tactical formation despite and irrespective of, the quality of the opposition. He did the same whilst England manager. Basically it's a park the bus scenario which cedes the midfield to the opposition and hopes to effectively work on the break.
With the squad available I think we have far more possibilities than what we see under his one dimensional tactical approach.

You do realise he only has the players before him to choose from.
He cannot make a particular player who under pressure or has little room to move make space for himself and find a teammate if this particular player cannot actually do it, you understand that these players are the ones that eventually end up being in the championship don't you and thus you also understand that the ones who are good at it end up with the top six, so ....not Hodgsons fault

Look up ‘movement’ or moving out of 100% defending position. You’re conveniently ignoring this.

I think you might need new specs. Kouyate is the only central player apart from Meyer who runs forward with the ball. He drives at the opposition which draws players towards him, yet we ignore this use and play 3-4 sideways passing central midfielders but then don’t allow full backs to overlap. Are you catching on yet?

Liverpool hated it. I appreciate we need to do this a lot, but at home, all of the time, and wait for the opposition get all setup before we make our 10 sideways passes or get closed down by 2-3 players?

I like Kouyate in the side.
Provides physicality in midfield and makes penetrating runs forward both with and without the ball.Plays with his head up and likes to open up his body and run at opponents.
He filled-in at centre-half at W.Ham when they had injuries.
I recall speaking to someone about Kouyate when he was at W.Ham - he told me that in his opinion he wasn't the finished article but that was probably about 5 years ago.

Too often with a miss placed pass! I find myself screaming at him constantly, I know we can only afford these players but fuck me he takes the piss at times!! there's a reason why he filled in at West Ham isn't there and why they let him go, needs to sort himself out, when on a good day fair enough he can look good, but when on a clumsy day he can ruin everything completely.

Jesus H Christ!

When you said Kouyate isn't worthy of a start over the others I thought to myself here's a chap who might not even know what football is let alone know anything about it and then you go on to rate Puncheon?!

You've had a shocker there son.

Is the correct answer Rudi/Willo. Good with the tactical fouls too.
