Monday morning.
just been listening to the radio on the way to work. Preparations for Thatcher's funeral, etc.

I am feeling the vibe this is going to be a huge anti-climax. The sheer expense of this funeral is obscene.
She was a very effective politician. Nothing more, nothing less.

I hope the proposers/authorisers of the spending of this public money are ashamed and embarrassed.

That's as it may be.

However it was Thatcher who negotiated the EU rebate which has seen 75 Billion come back into this country.

Even though the wimps in Labour ended up giving it partly back on the pretext of being 'good Europeans'.

Thatcher deserves the ten million or whatever it is.

In the wider context. she is dead.
There is nothing to be gained from spunking that kind of money on a funeral.
Thatcher was probably held in higher regard by other countries. The US, Russia and a begrudging nod of the head by most Europeans.
Therefore, i can't help but feel that the TV coverage of this occasion is more for the benefit of foreign TV ( a good little earner for whoever has TV rights to this).
Profit is clearly going to be made by someone out of this, and no doubt Thatcher would have whole-heartedly approved

f*** the belgrano, it was an enemy vessel, when at war you kill the enemy.

I would have been disgusted if Thatcher hadn't given the order to sink it.

She was a Boudica of modern times.

For all the damage she did, for all the good she did, she was a force of nature and the leader the country needed for the time.

While some things she did made me angry when everything is seen collectively I think we needed her....Otherwise we would be France or Italy now.

While we will never share quite the same sentiments.
I must admit this did raise a smile.

6500 a month, a feckin month !!!!!

That is taking the right piss

No it is not, well according to Penge. He says there are no unscrupulous landlords out for all they can get and its just market forces at work!

Nick, you really talk s***. Of course it's market forces at work. Somebody will end up paying that figure - and they won't be an unfortunate case due to the extreme price! Taking the piss is just your opinion. How about cars, speakers, TVs - they are overpriced too, so what, people pay it! Unfortunately for you we don't live in a communist country where prices are fixed by the State.

I've given up waiting for your explanation of why you think landlords are unscrupulous with social housing. In the meantime, keep posting left wing links and photos from your Facebook chums. But try to be able to back up your commie propaganda when challenged.

1. I do not think all landlords are unscrupulous with social housing. I have said there are some. If you recall an earlier post, I said that my beef is with the fact that affordable social housing was sold off and one third of it is owned by landlords who charge higher rents for the properties than the social housing rent was. To my mind this is unscrupulous. Don't you find it strange , obscene even, that the son of the minister in charge of housing at the time of Thatcher's tenure has a portfolio of 42 ex council houses.
2. You call it propaganda, others see it as facts.

'Shelter says that following cuts to housing benefit and changes to the homelessness safety net, it is concerned that vulnerable families will be pushed into the bottom end of an unregulated private rented sector unprotected from a minority of rogue landlords looking to cash in.

Campbell Robb, chief executive of Shelter, said: "Throughout this campaign we have been continually shocked at the treatment tenants receive at the hands of these unscrupulous operators. What is more worrying is that this research shows just how many people are being affected by rogue landlord practice.'

I've got an idea, nationalise all former council houses with no compensation.

It is grotesque especially when you realise that just over 4 in 10 people in the UK kept voting her in. Way over the top on so many levels.

That money could pay for some very effective cancer treatment for nth amount of patients or build 100 eco homes to house 100 families (200 adults and 300 children currently in hostels or b and b's)

Appalling and a stupid waste of public money.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, also by that logic we could have just nuked Buenos Aires and not bothered with the Task Force and saved 266 British servicemen's lives.

There have to be rules of engagement otherwise the world would have been a sea of fire - like Seoul in about half an hour - half a century ago.

Or the majority of people that voted, voted tory.

BTW I don't think she should be having a state funearal (although 'they' ae denying it's a state funeral now), she was just another pm.

Back to school with you young man. *tsk*

A majority would have been 50.01 per cent voting Tory.

As it was around 57 per cent DIDN'T vote Tory. There's your majority.

Her actual majority was seats won. Not votes won.

'Appalling and a stupid waste of public money'.

Yeah, so is the extra dosh we give those irritating Scots over the border.

Hasn't stopped us supporting the 'socialist republic of Scotland' though has it.
