Regarding Potter, I'm not remotely convinced by him. Combined with the absolute hilarity that would be met by his eventual inevitable departure by our friends down the road it's a huge NO from me. I've always been impressed by Brendan Rogers/Rodgers and would be happy if he were appointed. Having said that, there are very few managers around who keep us fans happy for more than a couple of years! I think Rodgers is a decent manager, however, my concern would be our limited budget. He only took the Leicester role as they were being bankrolled. He did well for a few years but the moment the money dried up their form plummeted. He would demand quite a lot in terms of control, his (high) wages, his backroom team and a transfer budget.

Tell you what: I wouldn't want to be in Mr Parish's hand made shoes having to make the decision. If Roy's tenure ends as successfully as it started and we all leap about in joyful ecstacy, the prospect of replacing him with a bloke with iffy credentials, is going to be bloomin' hard to justify. Whoever it is. I just wish Roy felt able to go public on his future then at least we could make a more balanced assessment. As it stands my preference is to maintain the status-quo and gradually bring Paddy up to speed. If the wheels start to come off by Christmas it still gives us time (having done some background work) to appoint a successor. So, come on Roy, are you in or are you out?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

The club has been quite good at keeping their business private, and as much as I'd like to know what is going to happen next year, I'd like that discretion to continue.

We all know it's going to be Pards so we can just look forward to more 4-3s, either way - toss a coin.

I’d just add that whatever the decision it will need to be made before the Forest game - we can’t go into that with the crowd not knowing whether they should be giving Roy a(nother) send off, a vote of confidence or just a well done & see you again next season.

I spoke to some learned gentleman who witnessed the 'BT Sport' coverage of the W.Ham encounter.Interviewed before the game with David Moyes, evidently Mr Hodgson expressed the view that he was 75 years old and was unsure how long he could continue.

I don't think there are going to be any more projects like Vieira or De Boer or even Potter for a bit. So if Roy and Ray want it and the Board have half a brain it's theirs IMO as they are the best available for our stature. No point in reading anything into TV interviews or age. As has been highlighted on an another thread there's not much point in listening to the pundits either because most of them are as thick as sh1t.

That's become the recurring theme whenever Palace look for a new manager - a 'next level' coach or a safe pair of hands? Since giving Vieria the bullet the club has had a good while to compile a shortlist, consider the type of coach / manager they want, and lay some groundwork. None of that really matters though. We were in this position when Roy left last time, and found that agreeing a deal with a decent (not great) top-level coach or manager is the same as agreeing a deal with a decent top-level player - they will be interested in Palace but want to see if a better option comes up before committing. Last time around, and even though we had all the time in the world, we ended up rushing to appoint Vieria at the last minute because Favre and Nuno had strung us along for weeks. I could see that happening again either this summer or, if Roy gets another year, next. That's just part of being Palace in the premier league. The only way we could secure a new manager nice and early is if we opt for someone very grateful for the opportunity, like an upcoming young football league manager (Edwards at Luton perhaps?) or an in-house candidate like McCarthy (although we are totally guessing as to his credentials). Either option represents a significant gamble.

Either option represents a significant gamble. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw another gamble with a contingency plan in place again soon. TBF the option for the board is either do everything to avoid relegation and get the likes of Hodgson, BFS etc in to forever stay still, at best, or take a gamble here and there to try for more, which is always what fans will pine for. The intelligence behind the gamble will always be questioned when it does not pay off of course however who knows and can predict all? I am guessing it is a bit of a case of trying to strike oil each time we take a risk but c'est la vie, fuels any moaning and b!tching we as fans want to get out of our system, which is probably healthy, and again is perhaps better than sitting agonisingly still forever with only disaster as an alternative. Another option would be to invest in the team and have a manager capable and willing to oversee that period being the predominant driver in 'moving us forward'. I don't see that as likely any time soon however.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Brendan Rodgers has been manager of Liverpool. I suspect he is not interested in taking on a challenge at our club. You make a fair point, as ever. However, the same could be said of Moyes, who I think I recall managed one fairly big club in the past...

A year ago, there is no way that we'd ever be able to attract Potter or Rogers. Now maybe we would. Have a chat, be honest about finance and see if they are up for it. At least for those guys, there aren't any obviously prem jobs as cant see either of them getting Spurs or Chelsea. All of the mid table teams seam pretty happy.
