This is the week an announcement will be made. The club seem to like tying announcements in with marketing and they also like a Friday announcement, so I am going to go for this Friday as that is also the day the new documentary comes out on Amazon. Personally I used to hate it if a manager asked to see you late on a Friday as that is when businesses often give out bad news. Thankfully I am freelance now so Friday meetings are just me, the dogs and some beer.

If people want an example of how EPL managers contracts work they can look at Sam Allardyce leaving us. He resigned from a fixed term contract. He had to pay us £2 million if he took another EPL job inside 2 years. He did with Everton so we were paid the money. Lampard is different in that he was sacked. His contract may have had clauses covering this we will never know. All we can do is speculate however he is due compensation for his loss of income.

Dominic Fifield has stated on the "The Totally Football Show" (iTunes podcast at 1:01:16) that it’s between Nuno, Dyche & Ismaël and it should be announced this week. Nuno is an understandably big prospect. But I suspect there may well be politics involved with him & Mendes and it’s entirely possible that’s the reason he’s unemployed to begin with. It really is a recipe for it to all end in tears at Palace. Valérien Ismaël is the guy. He could be a fantastic appointment provided he’s given the time & we bring in players committed to a high pressing style of football. As for Dazza, you said Lampard was being announced last week. Your source is full of s***. It’s time for you to drop this “links to the board” bulls*** now as it just comes across as trolling at this point. Edited by Mstrobez (31 May 2021 1.13pm)

I'd be very surprised if it was him, and wouldn't overly look forward to seeing us play like his Newcastle side, or to him throwing the toys out of the pram when we don't spend money we don't have. I find him self-serving and cynical in his use of the media against the club's that employ him.

The golden thread running through these coaches is that they are pragmatic coaches who play realistic, fairly no-frills football. Wolves were given a nice sheen by the quality of players they were able to get, but they were first and foremost an organised defensive unit who played on the break and didn't open themselves up too much. Dyche, as others have rightly said, is more of the same for a club that's had Pulis, Allardyce and Hodgson. I've seen nothing whatsoever of Barnsley this season but read a few opinion articles and stats suggesting that whilst Ishmael favours pressing ahead of counter attacking, his team are characterised by direct play and hard work.

Fortunately, he won't be interested in a little club like us. Newcastle with its regular 50000 crowd support was about as low as he would be prepared to go. He wants to go to a team that can win things. He's said it on more than one occasion.
