With respect I don't share this viewpoint.
We have players who were effective in the past but are now past their best.

Exactly, Nearly half the players in our first team squad are too old to cope with the demands of premier league football week-in week-out. They struggle to recover; they struggle with injuries and they're all a yard slower than they were a year ago.

Hodgson doesn't help things by keep packing the first XI with these players and expecting them to perform.

As to when he will go, it will be
- before the New Year (if SP has someone lined up who's prepared to accept a minimal January transfer budget) or
- when/if we fall into the relegation zone or
- in the summer (unless there is a remarkable change in our fortunes and performances, which is not looking very likely) if Hodgson manages to keep us afloat till the end of the season.
Which of these? Your guess is as good as mine.

Do I want him to go? Ask me after the Sheff Utd game if he's still here then.

Consider this scenario :

Steve Parish says to a prospective manager "We are in the mire,we need saving from relegation, the players are old and need replacing asap and by the way here is £5 Mill for your transfer budget" !
I don't think there will be too many interested under these conditions!!

This is sounding very much like Project Fear.

I know after years of supporting palace its difficult to be optimistic. But we are an established club in the richest league in the world.

We represent a great opportunity.

The issue I see is that a whole raft of players are in the twilight of their careers and cannot perform to the level required on a consistent basis. They are not the players they once were.

A total of 15 of our squad are either about to reach 30 next year or are in their 30s and lack energy, pace and mobility.
They need to be replaced but I don't foresee a significant loosening of the transfer purse strings so challenging times lie ahead.
Hardly a good selling point when trying to attract a manager.

Indeed we do, and if there is a hungry young manager out there such as (or like) Thomas Frank and he believes he can get more out of our existing squad than is currently the case, then he'd jump at the opportunity. There are promising youngsters in our other squads. They may not be ready just yet but two or three of them soon will be.

Interesting listening to the AVFC Manager who talked about thirteen new players at the start of this season. Eze has been showing what a confident 22 year old can do for our performances. Support some renewal of contracts for just six months - there can always be an extension - (perhaps only known to the player) with longer terms announced.

Ten goals in two matches does seem like putting both the manager position, and player options in the "shop window".

There will be managers who jump at the chance to go forward with three new signings, plus six coming from the academy (which I feel is the right ratio and sends the correct message to the Academy).

COYP.

I lost faith in Roy, after the disgraceful end to last season, I can't forgive that and I've wanted him gone since.
If the club had any real ambition, we should be looking at someone of Pochettino's level.

Oh and keep Freedman as far away from the managers position as possible.

The mountains are calling & I must go.

It is fortunate for Villa that they never sacked Dean Smith last season when they only missed relegation by a whisper. Instead, Smith was allowed to strengthen and coach his team into a pretty reasonable outfit this season.

A temporary losing streak might be a signal that more support is needed from the club - not necessarily a total reboot.

Be carefull what you wish for ... I see Ian Holloway is available again.

OK, so from the many posts so far, a handful have lived in the real world long enough to suggest a replacement for the man they want sacked.

Suggestions include:

1. Internal appointment (Derry, McCarthy).
2. Thomas Tuchel. Last seasons losing champions league finalist.

and also

3. jeeagles grandmother.

I'm not sure which of these suggestions is most comical to be honest.

Look, I don't enjoy watching Palace grind out results playing anti-football, or getting stuffed when they even try to play a little, but thats the real world. We've hit the glass ceiling. This is as high as we can ever, ever get unless something big changes in the non-football side of the club.

The point I am trying to make is that there isn't a coach out there who can break that ceiling for us. Whoever we could get would be not produce a side any less flawed than Roy does - they may be flawed in different ways, but that's all.

I'm going to wade into this conversation on 'naming a new manager' with a few points:

1. I could (or anyone else on this site could) give you suggestions for names of a new manager, but that doesn't help add anything to the discussion as it's not our responsibility. The real question is this:

Do you believe there is another manager out there who can do a better job than Roy Hodgson is currently doing for us? I believe that answer is yes. As I do not work in the football industry, unfortunately I don't have the inside scoop on the next superstar manager who's doing a cracking job in Germany/Netherlands/France/Spain/Italy/Lower English leagues etc. BUT I can assure you there is always someone. (Southampton and Wolves are are a fantastic examples with their managers and what their status was before they were appointed). There isn't any industry devoid of new talent.

That's our clubs responsibility though. And I hope they have their eyes on someone.

2. Following on from the end of that point, we should be neck deep in a succession plan for Roy by now. Considering Roy has been here for 3 (or 4) years on 1 year contracts, we absolutely should have something in mind seeing as he was never a long-term plan who became a long-term plan.

If they club have not thought into the future of who comes post-Roy, then we are in trouble. I'm sure they have.

Overall, Sean Derry and Paddy McCarthy (2 suggestions I've seen) are not answers. They will not come in and improve the club. They haven't got any experience or proof they can handle that step up under their belt.

But the time to change is now or rapidly approaching very soon. I sincerely hope the club are prepared to make an informed appointment.

Why on God's green earth would Tuchel or Pocchetino come to Crystal Palace Football club.

Wake up if anyone is being serious with those names.

As for Roy, after his inspired move of replacing one defensive midfielder with another, when we are 2-0 down to 10 men, stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

The bloke knows football but a 3 year old could have cooked up a better substitution than that, perhaps even at half time.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.
