AWB in Manure gear before the transfer.... England U21 thought he was playing for someone else - (own goal in added time). Was he forced out as a traitor, did he vote remain?

I don't think you can complain too much about your board selling an uncapped player for what is a world record fee for a full-back. £55m is a good deal for a player who hasn't yet played for the national team. I've watched him develop and he's brilliant at defending but unlike van Aanholt he doesn't get forward much and he'll be expected to do so at Utd. They'll want him to hit the ground running, but I think it might take him a season to adapt. I know some of your fans will be unhappy to have sold one of your best players but presumably the club saw this coming and will have been targeting players to buy and strengthen the club overall. I'd be a bit worried that that hasn't happened yet. If the money just sits in the bank, then what's the point of that? Players on the pitch are worth a lot more than money in the bank. That bit made me smile, I doubt we've started looking even now. We have Joel Ward, that'll be good enough for us for the season Edited by jimruss (28 Jun 2019 10.42am) Edited by jimruss (28 Jun 2019 10.45am)

You spend your whole life supporting a club hoping to get players of the quality of AWB only to see them sold within a year. This club has obviously reached its limits under the current regime and infrastructure. Until that changes, we will continue to sell our best players I'm getting that Alan Mullery feeling.

I’ve no problems with us selling AWB. It’s just a fact of life that on the rare occasions that we do unearth a little gem a bigger club is going to come and snap them up. It’s not like we didn’t get what he was worth, in fact I would say we got well above what we could have expected for a player with one full season’s experience. It’s a miracle in my opinion that Wilf is still with us. If it hadn’t been for his experience with Man. Utd he would have been long gone. My only concern would be what Roy does with the money. What we don’t need is any more Jachs, Rakips or Sorloths.

As would I, but it's more about a sense of progress. We have done well in the last 5 years but that has come to a grinding halt as the club concedes defeat in any effort to rise above mid table. Supporting a football team is about passion and not pragmatism. In this case, I believe that the board's pragmatism is not in line with improving the playing side. It is either about desperation or profit. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (28 Jun 2019 12.30pm)

If somebody were to offer you 50 millions for a guy who is an excellent footballer you would think they were nuts and flee with the money surely. Reluctantly joining the money camp. Yes, steeleye is corruptible....

When Zaha goes that will be our two best players gone. I'm not criticising it as such as only the future will inform us as to the wisedom. Also, keeping a player at a club against their wishes can bring its own problems and we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Anyway when Zaha goes that will be truly the start of a new era at the club......probably bring in a new style of football and everything will look different. Things are going to be changing.....and as life rules, change will be s***e for some and beneficial for others. Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Jun 2019 1.09pm)

There hasn’t been a period in your time supporting Palace, that we haven’t sold our players. They get offered £50m, player declares his love of Man Utd and produces pictures of himself as a kid in a Utd kit. Do you refuse to sell and let the player run his contract down and walk away for nothing or take the money. Don’t try and blame the current regime, it’s nothing new, it’s business.

I am blaming the current regime because it was their decision and one that sends the team backward. More to the point, I am left wondering why one should waste emotion on a Saturday for a club that sells possibly the best defender it has ever had inside a year.
