The Greens who share of the Euro vote is down 10% from the previous Euro elections. Those Greens.

The Greens got 7.87% of the Euro vote, which was 0.75% down on last time, not anywhere near 10% down.

Due to the voting system this somehow got them 1 extra MEP. They now have 3, which makes them the 4th best represented party from the UK.

Clearly Matt (or whoever he's taken his stats from) is trying to claim that if you have 7.87% of the vote and lose 0.75%, that's a reduction of 10% because 0.75 is a tenth of 7.87 (or there abouts).

Exactly right.

By anyone's calculations the Green vote was about 10% down from last time.

It's getting difficult to follow the multiple discussions on this thread (credit to Gusset for once again starting a huge thread) not least the interminably waffly ones between Stirling and luckybuck

But here are a few random thoughts anyway:

1. People (esp. the media) are over-egging what UKIP have achieved. Roughly the same vote share as the two major parties in the Euros is impressive but will have little impact on British politics. The locals results were overhyped by the media.

2. The lib dems would be INSANE to off Cleggers just now. Either they and the Tories do ok in the election and clegg can form a coalition again and get their nice limousines and red boxes. Well done Clegg. Or Labour do slightly better, they oust Clegg and a new lefty leader (Cable) finds it possible to do business with Labour. Either way, any potential new leader wants to come in AFTER the election.

3. It's EXTREMELY amusing to see a lefty (in this case White Horse) get drawn into debating the nuances of 'racism' versus 'non-prejudicial discrimination on the basis of race'. Very, very amusing indeed.

So if Labour are the largest party (and Tory + Lib Dem equals less than 325) you suggest they find a new leader immediately after the election? I don't know how their process works, but I presume the leader is democratically elected by the membership, which presumably takes more than 5 days or whatever to sort out?!

Look at what happened last time! Lib Dems said to Labour "your bloke is a liability, we wouldn't even entertain the ides of him being involved" and it killed the negotiations stone dead because you can't just replace your leader at a moment's notice! Not only that, but presumably the Labour people in those negotiations last time will be itching to play the same game straight back at them. Labour can't spend 5 years slagging off Clegg and then do a deal with him!

I like waffles.

Sweet or savoury?

Never been a fan of either. Although I do like those potato smiley faces (and the new 'mashtags'), which are somewhat similar.

I'm a baked potato man personally but too many of them resemble Neil Kinnock so I'm cutting down.

We could have a filtered immigration policy and just let the slim, young and attractive yank females in......That way we could get the numbers down to two or three people a year.
