I agree, It's not the landlords fault that he can charge that money and get it, if that's the going rate, well...don't hate the player, hate the game.

To take down 'the game' there is no point in going after individuals sucking people's cash teats dry. Gotta go after the big boys. The Government. They are the ones that can change things not some w@nker banker investing his bonus in a £700k house in Balham to rent out at a very high rate. I read somewhere recently that it is not uncommon for people to be spending 60 per cent of their income on rent in London. Think it was roughly 35 per cent back in mid nineties when I was a rent boy. In one of my rare trips to the theatre, I saw Steven Berkoff's 'Sink the Belgrano' It didn't shine a very good light on Lady T.

The Problem with renting a property like I do is getting decent tenants most of them are....well scumbags. s*** & garbage everywhere ,broken furniture, overgrown garden, ruined carpets, cigarette burns, leaks, holes in walls, holes in ceilings, broken windows, kicked in front doors, Non payment of Rent Etc Etc. Now fortunately I have decent tenants and I charge them a fair rent and they seem happy enough especially as they have both been there a fair while. However the fact of the matter is unless someone actually owns a property rather than Rents they tend not to treat as well as if it was theirs (that's from my experience)

You can exploit the market without over exploiting people if one should so choose. Making as big a profit as possible at the expense of others who probably need the money a lot more than the two, three or more house owning portfolio holding landlord charging the most he or she can get away with is capitalism without a conscience.
That sounds scary, but it entirely depends on the extent of the regulation imposed. Rent caps and direct regulation of prices would not be right or effective. Tax breaks for those who rent at lower rents could work but we dont need a sledgehammer to crack a nut here. The fact that rents are more expensive than mortgages, at the moment, has far more to do with the fact that interest rates are historically very low, rather than rents being high. £6,500 per month to rent. Not quite a salubrious penthouse in SW1, is it? Someone is raking it in. That's taking the pIss. People will pay it because they have to or have no significant options. It's out of control. Literally. Edited by Kermit8 (14 Apr 2013 6.20pm) Who are you to judge what is right or wrong in the housing market...
