Allardyce, Warnock and Hodgson all left Palace for retirement. All back managing once again. Obviously like the Palace retirement parties.

I honestly can't see why we're discussing a new manager. To not offer Roy a one-year contract would be looking a gift-horse in the mouth. The bottom line is we're playing good football, getting results, the manager's happy, the chairman's happy, most importantly all the players have smiles on their faces, and there's not exactly a clear and obvious perfect choice in the wings waiting to take over. Keep Roy for another year and announce it now; everything and everyone settles down and focuses on next season, and maybe Paddy can be groomed as Roy's long-term successor, a call that doesn't have to be made now but if appropriate, might be an attractive solution further down the road. It ain't broken so stop thinking about fixing it.

Has anyone ever heard him express a view on this because, if he has, I am not aware of it?

He has been the manager at Fulham, Brentford and Watford also caretaker manager at Palace. He now prefers the assistant and coaching role.

I, for one, am still discussing another manager because it is not yet clear that Roy wants to come back for a complete season. Obviously, should he intimate to Steve and Co that he would be interested then absolutely, sign him up and get down to planning for next year.

Let's face it. Roy is still very much playing a straight bat and speaking only short term, i.e., until the end of the season Until it becomes clear one way or the other what his plans are for life after the end of this season, we carry on with our debate.

Whilst I'm on the subject, I'd like those who are dismissing Rodgers, Moyes and Potter out of hand to tell the rest of us who they think would realistically consider coming here and has an appropriate CV to be considered.

You are not alone Willo. We have to remember we are unlikely to be on the list of any of the top managers. We, therefore, need to consider those at the level below who have shown that they can deliver competency in the PL over more than a few games. Moyes fills that criterion as do both Rodgers (NOT ROGERS)* and Potter.

I like Potter but I'm not sure our DNA fits the style he wants to play. As I've said elsewhere, I wouldn't say 'no' to either of the other two.

* Not for your benefit. Willo but for any who might read this post and can't get Don Rogers out of their minds.

I dare say this is the Way for us.
I struggle to agree with you about Potter though. he did a very Passable job at Brighton - though benefitted from the Stream of talent they appear to unearth. But then De Zerbi is very much showing him up.
Don't blame him for his failure at chelsea - other factors at play there. So his CV appears to be doing a decent job with good players at Brighton, and sod all else. Seems a fairly risky choice.

No they didn't. Allardyce left for reasons unknown but probably because he didn't get on with Parish. Warnock left the first time as we had gone bust and was sacked the second time and Hodgson didn't have his contract renewed

I won't claim to be a mind-reader but I think Roy's face and comments after the game Saturday told you all you need to know about his desire to come back. He's far too experienced and canny to say so openly, thereby putting unnecessary public pressure on the chairmen which could backfire on him. But I believe it's 99.999% likely that offered a one year deal, Roy would sign it before Parish finished the sentence making the offer.

Not sure about Potter as he needs players to take on the ideas but Moyes (if Wilf goes) is ok by me

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

The strongest rumour so far has been Adi Hutter. He also got linked to Leicester somewhat. I can't get the umlaut on the phone.

Arsenal may have won 2-0 but Palace were on top for much of the game and had the higher xG

Midlands Eagle - you are correct, but missing the point. At the time of departure, for whatever reason, they all declared their intention to retire.

So, you are saying Moyes has no idea!

Neither will be coming to Selhurst.
