Contrary to most here I think the actual team is perfectly capable of staying up.
Everybody only see no wins in 8 games, no one seem to remember the team had like 40 points in 30 matches before.
The quality of the team anyway is enough to stay up another season in my opinion.
This anyway doesn't mean we have to recruit younger players and improve the whole squad.
Important factors this season will be the number of players on the last year of their contract, which could open to new arrivals, and the football world economy due to Coronavirus. Many Championship teams will be forced to sell players to stay afloat (might be what we're trying to do with QPR. If they HAVE to sell, they'll lower their expectations).

The only thing I would say to counter this is most of our points came from teams who were relegated or bottom six and I reckon the three teams coming up are better than the three who went down. I struggle to see where goals and therefore points will come from without additions to the squad.

I have heard it said from a clearly disgruntled supporter who bellowed out that we only managed to sign Ferguson because there wasn't a great demand for his services, accordingly we weren't in competition with other clubs. And he was cheap!

In my head I'm picturing Brian Blessed, half cut on Carling in Wetherspoons, ranting about Nathan Ferguson next to the condiments table. Is that anywhere close?

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Close but no cigar!
His decibel levels were even beyond Brian Blessed.
His rant was interspersed with a few choice expletives.

I had a pint of Bass in my head, or something similar if a Wetherspoons.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I’m not concerned. We probably have a Palace squad that has never had so much top division experience...in our history.

The upside - safe early in the season

The downside - didn’t have enough steam to finish the season well

Add some youth and a goal threat and we are basically a nailed on 9th-12th position side. With luck we could even overachieve.

Ferguson looks quality and if he can perform anywhere near how he performed in the Championship then frankly we will struggle to keep him at Palace.

Let’s hope we have a chance at signing Fraser who Palace have reportedly offered a good deal today.

Eze would be a quality prospect to have at Palace and would surely excite the fans.

A young centre mid and centre back wouldn’t be a bad purchase because now with the experience we have in the squad they would be getting a great platform to develop.

As for strikers...no idea. Palace may well surprise us with that department. Surely the club are looking to bring a striker in but will it be a 25m gamble or a cautious 10m proven player that will simply add to the options....it’s exiting because I truly believe this window will see at least 4 more players coming in and like I said maybe a few for the future as well.

Why are we so obsessed with strikers?

Priorities should be:
1. A plan for the post Hodgson era
2. A quality inventive midfielder (like RLC) to work
with Meyer.
3. When 1. is achieved an industrious centre forward
4. Defensive midfielders who can actually move the ball forward and pick and make a pass, to replace Kouyate & Miliovejic (accidents waiting to happen)
5. Give Reidewald a roving commission - he is a quality player not utilised properly.
6. Give youth players a chance (disgracefully unused when we were safe, we learned nothing from not doing so)
7. Keep Tomkins, Cahill and Dann fit.

As a supporter since 1948 I long for the likes of a new Johnny Byrne or Atilio Lombardo !

Exactly how I’ve felt the last three or four windows, but it didn’t happen. Let’s hope things have changed but don’t be surprised if it’s more of the same old, same old.

I think the difference where others are concerned and you're excited comes from the difference in belief of what the club can acquire.

Taking your list -

Eze - 15m
Ferguson - 5m
Young CM - 8m
Young CB - 8m
Striker - 10m - 20m
Fraser signing on fee etc. - 3m

A lower cost estimate on all of them, which likely means the reality is higher, is still a net transfer fee spend of ~£50-60m.

I'd say most on here reckon we're capped at probably the £30m-35m range?

Personally, my big worry is the squad's performance deteriorated when they had to play back to back, and this season is going to be more back to back than ever. This season will require depth and on that metric, we look weak. I agree with you that we probably need to sign 4-5 players more than we lose. I'm nervous on our ability to achieve it.
