Ok, player then. We've now got a 50m kitty to buy a RB, 2 attacking mids and 2 strikers whilst trying to reverse the wage structure. Somehow, I can't see that money getting spent. It'll be "Kelly and Ward will do as RB, we'll still scrape 17th".

If AWB has had his head turned by Man Utd, because they are one of the biggest, most successful clubs in the World, SP has a duty to get the best deal he can for the club. Would you stay working for a small Company in Croydon when you could work for a multi-national, travel all over the world, enhance your reputation further and earn 8 times as much? Like b*****s would you. This isn’t rocket science. The player wants to leave so SP has to get as much as he can. If he was simply “cashing in” he would have touted him around the market. Now, the proof of his commitment and the clubs ability comes from the replacement (s). That is a lot of money so who are we going to get and in what position? If we get a couple of sub-standard journeymen and it sees us skirt with relegation or worse then questions need to be asked, in my opinion. This will be where DF, SP and RH earn their money but, personally, I have doubts about the way we do business and our capabilities and reckon we’ll miss out on more decent players due to our procrastination before we wind up with a couple of donkeys. Sorry, I just don’t rate DF in that position.

I don't think you can complain too much about your board selling an uncapped player for what is a world record fee for a full-back. £55m is a good deal for a player who hasn't yet played for the national team. I've watched him develop and he's brilliant at defending but unlike van Aanholt he doesn't get forward much and he'll be expected to do so at Utd. They'll want him to hit the ground running, but I think it might take him a season to adapt. I know some of your fans will be unhappy to have sold one of your best players but presumably the club saw this coming and will have been targeting players to buy and strengthen the club overall. I'd be a bit worried that that hasn't happened yet. If the money just sits in the bank, then what's the point of that? Players on the pitch are worth a lot more than money in the bank.

It'll go full circle anyway and AWB represents part of that with his excellent, almost throw-back slide tackles. As you say, as soon as the game goes full non-contact it's finished. Yep. It’s when they say things like ‘she’s England’s 4th record top scorer behind Rooney , lineker and charlton’ that makes me uninterested.

Back before Christmas there were some people who were saying we should sell AWB if we get an offer north of 20m and I disagreed as I felt right-back is an important position in our set up. I also really wanted to see at least another season of 'spider'. However, when a club the size of United turn up and make a world record offer it is very hard for the club to say no. It is easy to start throwing insults at Parish and the board, but until we see what else happens this summer I think it is unjustified. If we end up with a cheap fix and little spending elsewhere then I think most (if not all) of us will be disgruntled, but that hasn't happened yet. For example, one rumoured replacement is the Atlanta lad (Casagne) who helped his team qualify for CL, scoring 4 goals and getting 3 assists in the process. We are all disappointed to see AWB go, especially to United, but I'm willing to hold judgement...while also praying to whatever god there might be that Zaha stays (no amount of money is going to make that feel ok if he does leave).

Firstly, he's only uncapped because he doesn't play for a big six team, that'll change now. Secondly, it's not relevant when you're talking about potential. Thirdly, I think you're referring to City's setup, not United's. United desperately need defensively skilled players to build a base from. Even if he is going to be used as a RWB (and nothing about Ole's history leads me to believe he will) he is a converted winger so I'm sure with his talent and pace he can adapt back into that role. 50 million is going to prove an absolute bargain and be scant consolation to us when week in week out Ward is getting skinned and we're conceding goals from the opposition's left.

It's a myth that Bissaka didn't attack because of the CPFC set-up....see Van Aanholt's attacking play as proof of that. There is a much simpler reason why Utd went for Bissaka and James and that's because they are in danger of breaching the Premier League's short term cost control on wages. They apply for those clubs whose revenues are flat or falling and they mean for such clubs, wage bill increases are capped at approx £150k pw or £7m per annum if you prefer. Hence Utd make Bissaka the most expensive full back in the world but on relatively low wages (compared to Man Utd players), and likewise James.

Add to that he's had a few opportunites in the England youth setup where he hasn't exactly shined, and you begin to see that perhaps he's not ready for a full international call up (Again yet). He may get a call up while at ManU - and we'll never know if he would have after another season with us, but I think that it's unlikely without an injury to TAA or KW. What we do know, is that if he succeeds at ManU he will do so under a greater microscope, and under greater pressure. This will only help in when playing for england. He's had one full year playing for F*cks sake, let him develop(shame it's not with us). The obsession in this country with rushing through youngsters does me in!
