Edited by Stirlingsays (18 Dec 2020 12.06pm) There is no way I would go to a footballer for advice on anything other than football, how to get off an assault or drink driving charge or where the best hookers hang out. Politics and sport have never mixed well.

Politics and sport have never mixed well. Is the right answer. Not that it'll matter to the 'worthies'. They will sail on the cultural zeitgeist right up until the wind changes....at which point they will alter their sails to fit the new virtue signal.

All I hear these days is racism directed toward White people or used for the interests of Black people. Add to that, the suppression of any objections to this agenda. There is so much wrong with the current situation that it is hard to know where to start.

The point is that footballers can do what they want within reason. They almost all seem to agree with taking the knee or making some other relevant gesture. They do that as they see inequality in life, whatever background they come from or colour of skin, and wish to be a part of the solution You may not see what they see. Apparently that makes them thick and also subject to other people screwing their wives. An interesting leap in logic

An interesting leap in logic No they don’t, they do it because it’s easy to be seen to be doing the right thing when you are loaded. It’s like doing loads of work for charity and getting a gong for it. You can’t actually do that charity work if you are already working a 12 hour day to make ends meet.

The Soviets use to get near total vote approval for their candidates. Funny that....I mean, anyone vocal who didn't agree with them wouldn't have suffered any consequences at all....would they. You need better arguments.

I agree it is easier to afford to be charitable when you are successful and can release time and money without damaging yourself. That is surely the basis of most charities, many of which were set up by wealthy Victorians But taking the knee isn’t charity. Why do you feel their intentions are not those they state? Do you automatically become a liar and hypocrite when you are a professional footballer? Or merely when you become rich?

The doubt is cast when the words come from a script that can be produced by any HR department and the actions are merely the mimicry of yet again another zeitgeist from across the pond. A lot will see it as just towing the line and quite frankly would not expect anything else of anybody whose entire career and reputation could be damaged by any deviance from the narrative.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
