So mothers, grandmothers, grandfathers should all work?

I'd have thought that raising children properly is the best thing they can contribute.

Everything you say tells me that you are liberal/left.
As has been discussed in another topic. You can call yourself what you like, but that doesn't mean that anyone accepts it.

I regard anything that benefits society as work. Some of it paid. Some not. Some full time, some part time. Grandparents who help bring up children are working in my book.

What I object to is anyone who has the time and ability in terms of physical and mental strength sitting on their backside watching tv or amusing themselves online all day and half the night.

When others need support, or even company, this is unacceptable. We should all do something, whatever our age, whilst we can.

At the 'debate' an obnoxious interrupting little pr*ck.

Could lose his seat apparently.

I don't know how we will cope.

How's the revisionist history of strikes under Blair coming along ?

Companies linked to Conservative donors have collectively received £8.4bn in public money since 2016, more than 150 times what the party has received in support.

Government spending and political donation records reveal that key contributors have given £53.7m to the Tory party since January 2015, while controlling firms that have received billions in government and NHS contracts over eight years.

Obviously you should not permit political donations from donors who are bidding for public contracts, the US and key EU countries don't, but we do.

Risible and incorrect, am personally surprised

Of course they do. They are and always have been broad church. There will be people in that party you agree with and those that you don't. They are a huge organisation like Labour where opinions range from the outer edge of the spectrum to the very middle. There may even be those who think they are conservative but who overlap Venn diagram style into the Labour Party (and vice versa)

I rather think the days of the 'broad church' in political parties is rapidly reducing.

But on your central point I tip my hat and acknowledge that you didn't mean what I had attributed to you.

I amuse myself here for just a few minutes every day and never at night. I have two 3 hour long games of bowls today, which with the travelling and organising will take most of the day. The broken big toe being something of a restriction at present, which adds time. If you read, think and type quickly, it can be done though.

I'm sure society will be grateful.

This has been going on for years and is nothing new.
I suspect it was similar under Blair, Major and even Thatcher sadly.
Blairs money for honours scandal was a nasty episode.
Yours and my politics might be different but you can guarantee that whoever is in charge that corruption abounds!

Surely you mean recognition for their contribution to this country

That may be an illusion and considerable achievement of the parties that you think that.

Aside from the straight from college educated idiots who think what they're told, most MPs have lived and hold the whole miscellany of views that must diverge from the party line. It is tough enough for the whips to hold together as "one" smaller parties like the Greens (jihadi antisemites), Reform (racist bigots) and Libs (Morris dancing), so what chance relative behemoths like Labour and the Tories?

The positive of Reform from my perspective is I think they will get people talking about an end to first past the post beyond this GE - they're projected to win a decent % of votes but not that many seats.

On a similar note; current polling has Labour winning less votes than they did under Corbyn in 2017, but a majority of 200+.

Some democracy.
