This is true, so instead of getting some width in the team and banging some balls in the box Roy plays MacArthur on the left wing and Wilf though the middle. Roy hasn’t and never will play to Benteke’s strengths and when Wilf is gone it’ll be 4 central midfielders chugging round the pitch, playing the ball sideways, with possibly Andros cutting back onto his strong foot after the oppo have been behind the ball for 20 passes. I get why Parish will never want a manager keeping us in the prem to leave, and Roy won’t be doing it for very long anyway, but I am concerned we might be on the start of a slide seeing how few goals we score and how Roy is sapping creativity out of the team to the point you expect there not to be any. Roy had better be good with any new players and squad on the training pitch still because right now in real matches we’re very tame apart from some of the individual battles. I wish I could fast forward to the next manager because I’ve come close to not using my ST so many times. It’s lucky we don’t have a 35,000 stadium because we’d have to give away fans half to 3/4 of the Arfur to fill it playing this. I take your point on some of this and agree that Wilf and Townsend should swap sides and hit the box earlier. But many were banging on about the success of Wilf and CB as a front pair last week, Meyer’s inclusion, and the variation from what Roy had been doing. CB missed 20 from 23 good chances last season and to be honest there doesnt look to be much creativity amongst this group of players to be sapped with obvious exception of Wilf who Everton singled out as our only real threat and managed to nullify.

IMO it is largely down to the quality of the players we have yes. The style was very different when we had the the likes of RLC and Cabaye to give us options instead of Meyer, Kouyate and Schlupp. This is true but then Roy will select a load of non creative players and then not even bring any of the attacking new off the bench because it’s usually like for like replacements unless there’s less than 10 minutes left and we’re losing.

You don’t need to be creative to overlap jimmy MacArthur and whip an early cross in but we are lacking creativity through the middle, that is true. So the answer is again to rely on Wilf, but through the middle this time, and fail out on his wing and after the laboured passing across midfield, fail on Andros’s wing as well.

Burnley have struggled a lot more then us this season and Bournemouth until the 5-0 win at Brighton had dived down the table with a horrendous run with just something like two draws in thirteen games! Watford are the biggest surprise of the season, will they be able to do it again? We are actually all much the same in terms of survival. Edited by Tickled pink (28 Apr 2019 4.02pm)

Edited by Tickled pink (28 Apr 2019 4.02pm) i think realistically now with the financial backing wolves & everton have its 9th place tops for anybody else! you could argue maybe 10th as west ham probably fall into the wolves & everton bracket. you can bet your bottom dollar wolves & everton will spend again this summer. i cant see us spending more than £10m net this summer, personally i have no issue with that as we dont really need anybody

The wage bill needs addressing as well so it wouldn't surprise me to see Benteke and Mamadou Sakho moving on. Even then I'm not expecting major spending in the summer.

What I find baffling about Roy when it comes to our home form is that he has been a manager for 40 odd years in god knows how many different countries yet he can’t come up with an alternative plan to help us get wins. You would have thought a manager with his experience and intellect would be able to come up with a new plan but he just seems happy to drift along which is surprising considering he is a Palace man through and through. To have only scored 14 goals at home all season is disgusting

No but he has all those attacking options on the bench and instead of something happening out wide we get MacArthur on the left without an option or ability to do anything out there. Not a pass, not an overlap from a full back. Nothing. We’re setup as a table top football game with nobody moving beyond their line on the pitch. We’re safe and Roy wants to play it safe and keep all the threat on the bench? Really?
