God I hate this thread. It just sums up the ridiculous hype propagated b the Mail and its ilk, blabbering on about how the country will be overun, blah blah blah. For f***'s sake, the country needs more young people - not less! And all this stuff about Britons working abroad - eah, right! I'm sure there is just the same proportion of British people flouting rules in other countries as there are other nationals doing this here. No one seems to have noticed the large number of 'white' illegal immigrants from Australia and South Africa in particular.

indeed, my housemate works in immigration at heathrow airport and who does she tell me are the worst offenders for trying to get in without papers and lying about bogus jobs they have over here etc?? white south africans!!!

If we kicked out all those whose, lets say all four grandparents weren't born in England, ie from immigrant stock, i reckon there would be about a 47 people left in london. Maybe i'm exaggerating but you get the drift. We're all immigrants if you look back far enough.

Frogfrog - I agree. We are all immigrants to some degree, but I think the original question was whether the UK could sustain increasing amounts of immigrants still entering the country - and the "drain" that some of them are on society as a whole. It is a never-ending argument - some will come and add to the economy (and work bloody hard doing it) others will come and take the piss. Surely better immigration policies will help filter those who do come primarily to milk the system.

I grew up in Addiscombe and don't remember it either being that nice or that bad! My sister just moved back and I have friends who still live in the area and it isn't so bad..... is it??? I'd better warn her if it is!
