Seth, it has never been completely proven that our earliest ancestors from the Africa continet were black. The fossils and remains which have been discovered can tell you much about a culture and its people, but not the colour of their skin.
The conclusion that our descendents were dark-skinned is based on the situation of the African continent at the time and the likely climate. Whilst it does seem rational to believe our ancestors were drak-skinned, I thought I'd better post against your matter-of-fact statement.

If you have conclusive evidence to the contrary I'd be happy to see it. I admit my knowledge on this is limited, but I have been taught as much above.

Fair point, but I think the fossils show bone structures very similar to black people alive today. Of course we will never know 100% but as you say, it seems rational to assume they weren't light skinned like today's Europeans.

are you sure of this? i'm shocked if this would be the case as the earliest human skeletons / fossils always seem to be remarkably smaller than the human structures of today. surely modern man (of all races) has evolved so considerably from these initial remains that it would be impossible to compare.

again, i'm open to both argument and evidence that suggests otherwise.

We need to know what the climate was like in Africa 100-200,000 years ago.

Here's something about it: [Link]

It seems there was extreme climactic change occurring every 100,000 or so years, from hot & dry to ice ages.

So my considered view is: f*ck knows!

I shall continue my research at a later date.....
